고령화시대 교회 노인을 위한 죽음준비교육의 필요성과 당면 과제

국문 초록

본 연구는 인구고령화에 따른 노년기의 장기화와 함께 교회가 이들의 돌봄 문제에 보다 적극적으로 대응하여야 한다는 면에서, 그 한 방안으로 노년기의 핵심 과제 중의 하나인 죽음의 문제를 바르게 수용하고 의미 있게 맞이하도록 돕는 죽음준비교육의 필요성과, 이것이 기독교신앙공동체에서 더욱 활성화될 수 있기 위하여 고려 혹은 해결되어야 할 당면과제가 무엇인지 밝히는데 연구의 목적이 있다. 기독교적 관점에서 장수(長壽)노인의 증가는 하나님의 은총의 성취로서 축하할 일이다. 그러나 노년인구의 급격한 증가에 따른 개인적·사회적 차원에서 야기되는 부정적 문제들로 인하여, 한 사회의 인구고령화를 재앙(災殃)으로 바라보는 시각도 적지 않고, 그것이 또 우리사회의 현실이자 당면한 해결과제이다. 오늘날 한국사회의 노인문제는 곧 한국교회의 현재와 미래의 노인문제이기도하다. 고령인구의 급속한 증가, 노인 단독가구의 증가, 가정이 아닌 병원 등에서 임종을 맞이하는 노인들의 문제 등등 노인에 대한 복지적 차원에서의 관심과 지원이 증대되고 있는 시점에서, 교회 또한 노인들이 죽음의 문제와 관련된 복합적인 요인들을 바로 이해하고 돌보는 목양적 차원의 책임을 다하여야 한다. 교회 구성원의 연령 구조가 향후 지속적으로 노령화되고 그 비중이 커질 것으로 예견되는 상황에서, 노인 사역은 교회 목회 사역의 한 축으로 보다 세분화되고, 전문적인 접근이 필요하다. 노년기는 생애의 그 어느 시기보다 죽음에 대한 관심이 증가하는 시기로서 인생에 대한 재평가와 죽음을 준비하는 시기이다. 그러므로 노년기의 주요 발달 과업이자 적응 과제인 죽음의 문제를 준비시키는 교육은 교회의 노인 사역에서 매우 중요한 의의를 가지는 전문 사역이다. 이러한 맥락에서 본 논문은 먼저 노인 혹은 노년기에 대한 개념이해와 더불어 이들의 죽음 등에 관한 보편적 이해와 기독교적 이해를 함께 살펴보았다. 그리고 노인을 위한 기독교적 관점에서의 죽음준비교육의 성격 및 내용에 대하여 기술하였다. 마지막으로 향후 기독교신앙공동체내에서 노인 학습자를 위한 죽음준비교육의 활성화를 위하여 위해 고려되어야 할 당면과제를 다음의 다섯 가지로 제안하여 보았다. 1) 기독교의 가치가 반영된 분명한 목적의식, 2) 학습자로서의 노인과 상황의 다양성에 대한 고려, 3) 실재적이고 참여적이며 유연성 있는 교수-학습 전략, 4) 전문성이 담지 된 다양하면서도 단계적인 교육교재의 개발, 5) 목회사역의 한 축이자 전문사역으로서의 노인사역. 국가가 노년기의 안정적인 삶을 보장해주지 못하는 현실에서, 교회가 보다 적극적인 자세로 노인들의 돕는 손길이 되고, 그들에게 삶의 지지대 역할을 다하여 줄 것을 기대해 본다.

영문 초록

This study is intented to evoke the need educate the elderly on pre-paring for the death, and to elucidate what the problems are in order for the local church to be more active. Today, due to prolonged aging of the population, the Korean society is going through rapid changes into that of an aging society. When people get old, they become more interested in ways to help face death comfortably, and to lessen their anxiety about it. Death is a big issue to the elderly. They face a lot of fear and distress when coming to terms of their death and its process. In a Christian perspective, longevity is something people can cele-brate as the fulfillment of God s grace. However, there are different views that see the aging population as a disaster because it brings about many negative issues on individuals and communities. The elderly issues of our society can be lessened by the local church. While the social care and welfare support of the elderly in-creases, the church should also have more responsibility in caring for elderly church members and neighbors. It can be expected that the church will consistently age and the silver ministry will be an area of growing importance. Old age is a time to prepare for the re-evaluation of life and a time of increasing concern about death, much more than any other point in life. In this sense, preparing and educating the eld-erly on death will have a significance impact on the church’s silver ministry. Considering this reality, the writer first examined the con-ception of senescence, as well as the general and Christian under-standing of death. The writer then examined the nature and content of death, and prepared an education from a Christian perspective are investigated. The study highlighted following five factors that need to be solved by the local church in order to revitalize the education of preparing for death: 1. Clear sense of purpose reflecting the value of Christianity. 2. Consideration for the diversity of older learners and their situa-tions. 3. Practical, participatory, and flexible teaching and learning stra-tegies. 4. Developing teaching materials in which various related experts are involved. 5. Considering silver ministry as an important and professional field of church ministry.
