주 5일 수업제에 따른 교회토요학교 교육과정에 대한 제언

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 주 5일 수업제 전면 실시에 따라 가정과 학교, 그리고 교회교육현장의 요구를 반영하여 교회토요학교의 교육목적에 부합하는 교육과정을 설계하는 일련의 과정을 고찰하는 것이다. 본문은 두 부분으로 구성되었는데, 첫 번째 부분에서 주 5일 수업제의 도입취지와 기대효과, 그리고 교회토요학교의 운영 방향을 모색하기 위해 교육유형을 파악하였다. 첫 부분에서 도출된 결과를 바탕으로 두 번째 부분에서는 먼저 구원의 확신과 영적 성장이라는 교회교육의 목적과 학교교육 보충·심화의 필요성을 반영하여 교회토요학교의 교육목적과 교육요소들을 탐구한 뒤, 이를 토대로 교회토요학교의 교육목적 실천을 위한 교육과정을 설계하였다. 본 연구는 먼저 주 5일 수업제의 요구와 교회교육의 특성 반영 여부를 기준으로 교회토요학교의 유형을 분류하였고, 각 유형별 교육과정 구성 내용을 제시하였다. 다음 교회토요학교 교육과정 개발 원리를 담은 정강과 정강에 기초한 교육목적과 교육요소들을 제시하였다. 교회토요학교의 교육목적에 하나님의 창조세계에 드러나는 섭리, 규범, 역사에 대한 체계적 전달을 추구하는 학교교육의 목적과 성경에 계시된 하나님의 인류에 대한 구원, 그리고 구원에 따른 하나님의 백성으로서 하나님과 세상에 응답하는 방식에 관하여 가르치는 교회교육의 목적을 반영할 것을 제언하였다. 그리고 주제중심 통합접근 방식을 사용하여 big ideas를 중심으로 선정된 주제를 기독교세계관을 틀로 재구조화하는 과정을 제시하였다. 특히 이러한 과정을 통해 학생들이 기존 교과내용에 대해 기독교적 관점을 획득하여 삶 속에서 실천하도록 촉구할 수 있음을 제언하였다. 아울러 교회토요학교에서 학생들이 학업에 대한 자신감을 회복하고 성취감을 느낄 수 있도록 기초학습과 숙달학습 프로그램을 제공할 것을 제언하였다. 이와 함께 기독교세계관을 바탕으로 학생들 스스로 계획하고 수행하는 교과연계 창의적 체험학습과 부족한 인성·사회성·진로교육의 필요에서 사회봉사, 직업탐방 프로그램의 운영 방안을 제시하였다. 무엇보다도 이 모든 교회토요학교의 교육적 노력이 구원의 확신과 그리스도의 제자화를 목적하는 교회공동체로의 안내로 이어져야 함을 강조하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze diverse educational needs of family, school and church in relation to weekly five day school system and propose strategic methods for developing Saturday church school’s curriculum, reflecting those educational needs. The first part of the paper investigates the expected results of weekly five day school system implementation and brings forth distinctive roles of Saturday church school. What results from this investigation is as follows. First, Saturday church schools need to take a role of providing educational experience to supplement and deepen school curricula according to educational need of families and schools. Second, Saturday church schools should supplement the limits of existing Sunday church schools. Third, Saturday church school must realize that liturgies, seasonal events and servantship of teachers and volunteers convey the meaning of what Christian faith community is. In the second part of this study, curriculum development process of Saturday church school has been investigated based on Christian curriculum development theories of Gaebelien, Overman & Johnson and Van Brummelen as well as the outcomes of the first part. The study outcome is as follows. First, Saturday church school’s educational aims and structural elements should be defined reflecting God’s creation, Jesus Christ’s redemption and Christian life in a balanced fashion. Second, integration of Christian faith and life is to attempt through theme-centered approach by restructuring the learning units based on the theoretical principles of Christian curriculum development. Third, both basic learning and mastery learning programs should be planned to compensate the learning deficiency of families in need. Along with these supportive educational efforts, subject matter study-work programs and self-directed learning activities in accordance with Christian worldview should be practiced in order to help participants to grow into Jesus Christ’s responsible disciples. Last, liturgies, seasonal events and servantship of teachers and volunteers should be considered as a way to Christian enculturation. To sum up, the outcomes of this study give insights that Saturday church school curriculum needs be developed with theoretical orientation to reconstruct current Christian faith education, regarding goals, contents and teaching methods for the purpose of conveying the full-dimension of Christian faith. It surely could be a new opportunity in terms of enriching Christian faith education and, at the same time, of supporting local families and schools.
