In Korea, there are 6 universities offering Christian Education as part of a divisional system of majors (Hansei, Nazareth, Sungkyul, Hanil JangSin, Baekseok and Hoseo universities). These universities have been implementing the divisional system based on a ‘learner-based curriculum,’ which centers on the student’s needs and interests. Furthermore, the system has been widely applauded for encouraging interdisciplinary research and complex studies, as well as strengthening the education of culture and personal qualities. This study compares and contrasts the curriculum design and contents of the universities mentioned previously. Through this approach, this study will assess the ability of each institution to educate its students with liberal arts, while simultaneously training them to become professional educators and leaders. In order to do so, the study will compare how each school operates its liberal arts and major curricula, as well as what the curricula are consisted of. In a majority of universities, the component ratio of liberal arts, major, and elective courses tends to be asymmetric. Liberal arts courses, in university, must serve as sources of general knowledge and means of scholarly refinement for one to be prepared for his or her major education. Likewise, it is important for liberal arts and major courses to be complementary, and yet these universities have not fully considered the impact of required liberal arts courses and elective courses on the major program. All of the universities mentioned have incorporated the chapel to succeed the spirit of Christian universities. Also, as part of a strategy to turn out the right talents for today’s society, they have also implemented English and computer classes, as well as cogitative and expressional courses. These schools provide mentoring sessions, thereby assist students in their liberal selection of curriculum and self-development paths. Furthermore, by placing importance on community service and understanding of the disabled, they seek to cultivate the humanity of the student. The composition of the major curriculum seems to lean more towards applicative fields, rather than focus on the fundamentals of Christian education. Moreover, the curriculum subjects seem to be more subject/discipline oriented than interdisciplinary. In other words, all of the 6 aforementioned universities possess the ‘format’ for the original purpose of the divisional system to work, thanks to diverse specialization. However, the design of these programs are not sufficient to allow the student to use his or her knowledge and personal qualities in solving problems creatively under various situations.
