국문 초록

본고에서는 한국 고대사와 관련한 내용이 문학적 서사를 통해 창작되었고, 만들어진 역사에 대한 집단 기억이 역사적 사실처럼 사람들에게 수용되고 전승되고 있는 몇 가지 사례를 제시하였다. 아울러 그것이 어떠한 과정을 거쳐서 역사화되었고, 집단 기억으로 자리잡아 현재까지도 잘못된 인식을 낳고 있는지도 살펴보았다. 역사적 소재가 문학적 서사를 통해 구현되는 과정에서 어떤 의도성이나 목적이 내재되었던 것이다. 전근대사회에서는 그것이 忠, 여성의 정절이라는 유교적 관념일 수도 있고, 근현대사회로 오면서 국가나 민족의 위기 속에서 민족주의나 주체성이 강하게 발현되었을 수도 있으며, 때로는 그 속에서 민족을 넘어 민중의 모습을 찾기도 하였다. 결국 국가 혹은 민족 중심의 역사서술이 소위 ‘만들어진 고대’라는 이미지로 형상화되고 있듯이 근대 국민국가의 태동 이후에 민족주의 역사학이나 문학에서 민족주의를 내재한 문학적 서사는 거의 동질적인 결을 지니고 있다. 역사도 그러하듯이 대체로 기억은 기록이나 구전을 통해 축적되고 전승되게 마련인데, 기억의 내용과 방법이 문학적 서사에 기반한 것이라고 한다면, 그것은 분명 역사 너머 다른 저편에 자리잡아야 한다. 안시성과 양만춘, 을지문덕과 살수대첩, 연개소문과 당태종, 의지왕과 삼천궁녀, 무영탑과 아사달·아사녀 등은 어쩌면 우리 고대사 소재 가운데 극적이어서 주목된 것이었다. 대체로 민족주의 역사학에서나 근현대 문학가들도 민족의식의 발로에서 이러한 문학적 서사를 추구했다는 점은 공통된 현상이다. 이러한 민족의식을 자극시킬 수 있는 역사적 소재가 이용되었고, 문학작품 등에서 이러한 역사적 소재를 보다 극적이고 생동감있게 전달하는 방편으로 문학적 서사를 활용하였다. 인물이나 사건들에 대한 역사적 서사를 시대적 필요라는 차원에서 극적으로 표현한 것으로 당시 시대정신을 엿볼 수 있으나, 역사인식의 차원에서는 문제의 소지가 있다.

영문 초록

In this paper, the contents of ancient Korean history were created through literary narratives, and several examples were presented in which collective memories of the history were accepted and handed down to people as historical facts. In addition, we also looked at how it was historized throughout the process and became a collective memory, creating false perceptions to this day. In the process of implementing historical materials through literary narratives, some intention or purpose was embedded. In the pre-modern society, it could be the Confucian idea of women s fidelity, or in modern society, nationalism or identity could be expressed strongly in the crisis of the nation or nation, and sometimes people could be found beyond the people. After all, as state- or ethnic-oriented historical descriptions are shaped by the so-called the ancient society created image, literary narratives made after the birth of modern national states have almost homogeneous characteristics. As with history, memory is usually accumulated and transmitted through records and phrases, and if the content and method of memory are based on literary narratives, it must be located beyond history. Ansiseong Fortress and General Yang Man-chun, Euljimundeok and War of Salsu, Yeongaesomoon and Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, King of the Uija and three thousand palace women, Muyeong Pagoda and Asadal·Asanyeo were probably the highlights of our ancient history. In general, it is a common phenomenon that modern and contemporary writers, as well as nationalist historians, pursued these literary narratives in the footsteps of national consciousness. Historical materials that can stimulate this national consciousness were used, and literary narratives were used to convey these historical materials more dramatically and vividly in literary works. It is a dramatic expression of historical narratives about characters and events in terms of the needs of the times, but it is problematic in terms of historical awareness.
