종교적 ‘상상력’의 렌즈를 통해서 본 영화 속의 다문화적 성격과 기독교교육의 가능성에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 영화『나니아 연대기: 사자, 옷장, 마녀 편』(The Chronicle of Narnia)를 중심으로 미디어 문화의 다문화적 특성, 포스트모더니즘 교육이론, 구성주의적 해석학, 규범성과 상상력의 관계성을 검토하고 기독교교육과 관련하여 그것의 의미를 밝히는 것이다. 첫째, 영상문화의 다문화적 성격을 이해하기 위해 미디어 문화, 포스트모더니즘, 그리고 상상력의 관계를 살펴볼 것이다. 영상문화 혹은 미디어(media) 문화가 다양한 문화(multi-cultural society) 속에 급속히 파급되어 새로운 형태의 문화를 형성하고 있다. 미디어 문화는 미디어 혁명시대, 디지털 정보사회, 글로벌 정보사회(Global information Society) 등으로 명명되면서 인간의 상상력을 통한 가상공동체를 형성하고 국가, 경제, 군사적 힘을 기반 한 영토의 경계를 너머서 상이한 문화 차이를 체험하게 하고, 인종과 언어의 장벽을 너머서는 지구촌시대(globalism)시대를 초래했다. 한편, T.V.와 영화를 포함한 미디어 문화는 그 자체가 다양한 문화의 성격과 간접체험이라는 특성을 지닌 점에서 사이버 공간의 가상현실과는 구별된다. 영화 한편을 통해서 타문화권과의 접촉, 갈등, 반목, 화해의 모습을 투사 받게 된다. 특히 영화는 다양한 문화에 침투하여 영향을 주기도 하지만, 영화자체가 다양한 문화를 우리가 체험하도록 해준다. 둘째, 영화에 나오는 사남매 중 루시(Lucy)가 처음으로 옷장 문을 통과하여 나니아 세계로 들어가는 것에 착안 하여, 옷장 문을 ‘이해의 입문’으로서의 교육이라고 규정하고, 그것의 교육적 의미를 살펴보겠다. 또한 이해의 입문으로서의 교육과 구성주의 교육의 해석학적 관련성을 검토하겠다. 셋째, 본 연구는 상상력의 유한성과 무한성을 살펴보고, 상상력에 기초한 기독교교육의 가능성을 검토하겠다. 『나니아 연대기』의 작가 루이스(C. S. Lewis)의 종교적 상상력이 영상을 통하여 그대로 전해진다. 이 영화는 소설이 보여주고자 하는 성서적, 도덕적, 교육적 상상력을 영상화 하는데 탁월하다. 성서에서 말하는 희생, 사랑, 죽음, 부활의 의미가 윤리적이고 교육적으로 전달된다. 『나니아 연대기』에서 볼 수 있는 미지의 세계에 대한 주인공들의 지적호기심, 에드먼드의 터키젤리에 대한 유혹, 사자 아슬란의 희생과 사랑 그리고 부활 등은 인간의 상상력의 유한성과 무한성을 보게 한다. 호기심은 인간의 무한한 지적 가능성으로서의 상상력인 동시에 오용될 경우에, 공동체를 파괴시키는 인간의 유한한 한계이기도 하다. 신학적 인간관의 입장에서 볼 때, 인간의 상상력은 인간의 유한성을 내포하지만 교육학적 입장에서 볼 때, 인간의 발전을 위한 무한성을 의미한다. 넷째, 본 연구는 영화 속에서 볼 수 있는 남성 중심적 규범성과 성차별에 대해서 상상력에 기초하여 검토할 것이다. 다른 한편 필자는 연민의 상상력(sympathetic imagination)에 기초한 규범적, 종교적 상상력의 가능성을 살펴보겠다. 마지막으로 본 연구는 기독교교육의 규범적 기초는 돌봄의 교육이며, 돌봄의 교육이란 여성스러움(femininity)－연민의 상상력에서 시작되고 타자(다문화, 다양성, 다름 등)를 통한 자기－인식에 이르게 됨을 논의하겠다.

영문 초록

Nowadays, Christian education has been fueled by the work of deconstruction and postmodernism. We are involved in the task of Christian education related to criticism of sexual discrimination, fixed normativity, and phonocentrism. Many young people have been influenced by cyber-space imagery and movies. Furthermore, the Korean Christian community has been faced with a multi-cultural community which has become a pressing issue. It is essential to review the relationship between the influence of both the movies and the multi-culturalism. I believe that Christian educators must learn how to deal with the multi-cultural matters by reconsidering the meaning of imagination by analyzing the religious imagination, sympathetic imagination, and women’s subjectivity from the movie, The Chronicle of Narnia. In this paper, it is my intention to elicit on understanding of multi-cultural distinctions addressed by the imagination, multi-media, cyber-culture, and postmodern culture. As a result, I am able to explore the relationship between religious imagination and the movie’s imagery. On the one hand, we positively can learn the multi-cultural values from movies. On the other hand, we criticize syncretism and entertainment industries, and consumerism on the basis of culture from movies. This paper regards the diction ‘wardrobe’ from the movie as the initiation to ‘understanding’ in terms of education. The assumption that enculturation starts with ‘understanding’ has been advocated by the study of issues related to hermeneutical understanding and constructivism. It is my belief that curiosity offers the possibility of engagement of enculturation, the sharing of our stories, and the use of an embodied imagination. I examine the matter of patriarchal dominance and androcentrism from the movie in terms of feminist studies which seek to overcome the conflicts of binary oppositions and to share of women s narratives. Education involves not only the work of the religious imagination, but also sympathetic imagination resulting to the education of care and the ethic of care. It is worth noting that a rehabilitation of the notion of imagination from the intriguing movie help educators reinterpret a story of our community and one’s own narratives.
