질적 연구를 통한 이주아동의 삶에 관한 기독교교육학적 이해

국문 초록

본 연구는 이주아동의 삶을 질적 연구방법을 사용하여 분석하여 그들의 욕구와 그들의 삶 속에서 환경과 상호작용하며 느끼는 내면의 갈등의 요인들을 밝히고, 이를 통해 기독교 교육이 이들 이주아동들에 대한 적절한 교육적 개입을 할 수 있도록 이들에 대한 이해를 제공하고자 한다. 그동안 기독교 교육학적 관점에서 이주아동에 관해 다룬 연구는 부족했다. 이는 교육학의 경우에도 마찬가지이다. 기존의 다문화 연구들은 주로 성인중심으로 이루어 졌다. 또한, 이주아동에 대한 용어정의도 부재했기 때문에 이에 대한 혼란은 더욱 깊었다. 이주아동의 삶속에서 갈등의 원인과 욕구들을 살펴보기 위해 다음의 연구문제들을 제시했다. 첫째, 이주 아동들이 한국사회에서 겪는 내면적 갈등의 양상은 어떻게 나타나는가? 둘째, 이주아동들이 경험하는 정치적, 사회적, 문화적 마찰은 이주아동들의 정체성 형성에 어떠한 영향을 주고 있는가? 셋째, 이주 아동들이 내면의 잠재적 갈등을 극복하고 화해와 회복을 위한 긍정적 역동을 이끌어내기 위해 무엇이 필요한가? 연구방법은 질적 연구 방법을 통한 면담과 관찰, 체험의 원천으로서의 그림, 작문 등의 활동결과물 수집, 개방형 심층인터뷰 방법을 사용하였다. 이를 통해, 이주 아동들이 경험하고 있는 불확실한 미래에 대한 불안으로부터 겪는 상실감, 사회적 가치관의 혼란 그리고 지속적인 심리적 상처와 분노가 있다는 사실을 밝혀냈다. 그리고 이들을 보호하고 삶을 지지해 줄 수 있는 기독교 교육적 지원이 요청되고 있다는 사실도 알게 되었다.

영문 초록

Various social discourses on multicultural families and, migrant workers in Korea have been developed along with various social supports and policies for them have been implemented in the process of Korea transforming herself into multicultural society. But compared to these people, migrant children haven’t received enough attention. They live with cultural conflict and experience structural discrimination in Korea, yet they don’t have enough social service nor support network. Many churches and Christian Non-Governmental Organizations(NGOs) participate in caring service and education for migrant children through after-school program and kindergarten education. However, these activities run by Christian groups practically focus on daycare services rather than systematic education because of limited resource. This study look at socio-cultural conflicts and cultural change which migrant children in after-school run by Christian NGO face and experience in their daily life, and tried to find out the role and meaning of Christian education. First, migrant children feel a sense of loss and fail to have a goal because of their unstable status of family that may need to leave Korea at any time. Second, they have doubt and confusion about social values like justice, fairness and peace, etc, because of the different everyday experiences. Third, they live with anger and psychological trauma from structural discrimination and isolation. Therefore, churches and Christian NGOs need to be able to give support which help migrant children to overcome social and cultural conflict and build a positive self-identity based on Christian education. For this purpose, four educational practices need to be implemented. First, sustainable and stable educational circumstances have to be provided for migrant children. Second, Educational curricular about basic social values based on Christianity have to be developed and they can experience and learn these values in churches and Christian NGOs. Third, churches and Christian NGOs could run counseling programs and provide psychological therapy which could help migrant children’s growth and development and become a social support network for them at the same time. Fourth, multicultural education curriculum based on the Bible which both Korean and migrant children can participate in without difficulty need to be developed.
