국문 초록

연구목적: 이 연구는 지체장애가 있는 한 특수교사의 생활세계를 통해 교직의 의미를 알아봄으로써 다른 존재방식으로 살아가는 한 인간에 대한 삶을 깊이 있게 이해하는 것이다. 연구방법: 이를 위해 생활세계의 기본구조인 체험적 시간, 체험적 공간, 체험적 신체, 체험적 관계라는 4가지 범주를 활용하였고 부분적으로 일화를 구성하는 등 Max Van manen의 현상학적 연구방법을 적용하였다. 자료수집으로는 일 년에 걸친 면담과 참여관찰을 실시하였고 해석학적 순환의 관점에서 자료 분석을 하였다. 연구결과: 먼저, 몸에 대한 현상학적 접근으로 특수교사로 살아가는 참여자의 생활세계를 네 가지 실존체계를 중심으로 탐색하였다. 그 결과 참여자는 ‘부족한 존재에서 성장하는 존재로’ 자신의 몸을 기억하고 있었고, ‘신체의 한계와 제한된 세계’의 의미로 몸을 지각하고 있었다. 또한 ‘남자 교사인가? 장애인 교사인가?’라는 물음을 통해 몸의 정체성을, ‘주체적인 특수교사로 관계 맺기’라는 관계방식을 취하며 존재하고 있었다. 다음으로 지체장애를 가진 한 존재로서 특수교사의 의미를 탐색한 결과, ‘무엇을 할 수 있을까?’라는 물음으로 시작된 특수교사의 삶은 수업에 대한 고민과 기쁨을 느끼며 더욱 성장하는 특수교사의 길을 걷고 있었다. 하지만 자신의 몸으로 인해 ‘얼마나 더 버틸 수 있을까’라는 미래에 대한 불안도 나타나고 있었다. 결론: 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 지체장애를 가진 특수교사가 현재의 몸으로 교사로서의 삶을 지속할 수 있도록 배려가 필요하며, ‘지체장애인’ 교사가 아닌 한 존재로서의 ‘교사’로 바라보아야 함을 알게 되었다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study aims to deeply understands the life of a human being who lives in a different way of existence by examining the meaning of the teaching profession through the life world of a special teacher with physical disability. Method: The current study adopts four categories: existential time, existential space, existential body, and existential relationship and draws on Max van Manen s phenomenological research method including anecdotes in part. The data is based on interviews and participant observations conducted in a one-year period and is analyzed from the perspective of hermeneutic circle. Results: This study explored the life-world of the participant as a special education teacher primarily through four existential categories in a phenomenological approach to the body. The results show that the participant remembered his body from deficient being to growing being and perceived it with the meaning of physical limits and constraints of the world. Furthermore, it is found that the participant seeks the identity of his body with the questions of Am I a male teacher? or Am I a teacher with disabilities? and lives by taking the relational approach to have a relationship as an agentive special education teacher. Searching for the meaning a special education teacher has as a being with disabilities, this study finds out that the participant started his career with a doubt on what he can do but walks on the way of a special education teacher who feels delighted as well as worried about teaching and experiences his gradual development. However, the findings also reveal that the participant has anxiety about the future on how long he can last with his physical disabilities. Conclusion: This study highlights that it is imperative to provide care and support for a special education teacher with disabilities to continue the teaching career with present physical condition and view him or her not as a teacher with disabilities but as a teacher of the very existence.
