오무라 수용소를 둘러싼 젠더화된 기억 서사

국문 초록

오무라 수용소는 1950년 일본 나가사키현 오무라시에 설치된 입국자 수용소로, 1980년대까지 주로 강제송환이 결정된 한반도 출신자들을 수용하는 시설로 기능했다. 그들의 대부분은 해방 후 한국에서 온 밀항자 즉 ‘불법’입국자들이며, 일부는 재일조선인 중 형법위반자들이었다. 오무라 수용소는 형벌기관이나 교정기관이 아니며 강제노동이나 노골적인 잔혹행위도 존재하지 않았다. 그 특이성은 제국의 해체와 냉전체제의 심화과정에서 불법적 존재가 된 한반도 출신자들을 정해진 일정에 따라 분단된 ‘본국’의 어느 한쪽으로 원활하게 송환하는 것에 있었다. 한편 이 글은 시스템으로서의 오무라 수용소와 함께 그 공간을 일상적으로 영위한 피수용자들의 기억과 서사를 검토하였다. 구술내용에 드러나는 연령이나 젠더에 따른 수용소 경험 차이에 주목하면서 피수용자들의 기억의 공백과 서사화 양상을 해석하였다. 남성들의 경우 격리된 시설에서의 능동성 박탈과 비주체화 상태가 수용소 경험에 대한 적극적인 자기서사로 이어지지 않았던 것에 대해, 여성들의 경우 가족과 고향 사람들과 음식을 나누거나 여가를 보내는 공동성에 대한 기억이 서사화되었다. 이와 같은 검토를 통해 수용소(asylum)와 같은 어원을 가진 피난소/아질(asyl)이라는 관점에서 아래로부터의 오무라 수용소 경험을 재현했다.

영문 초록

The Omura Immigration Detention camp was established in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan in 1950. Until the 1980s, it mainly functioned as a facility for people from the Korean Peninsula who were to be deported. Most of them were illegal immigrants from South Korea after 1945, and some were criminal offenders among Koreans living in Japan. The Omura Detention camp was not an institution of punishment and corrections and there were no forced labor or explicit atrocities. The mission of this institution was the smooth repatriation of Koreans, who became illegal immigrants in the process of dismantling the empire and deepening of the Cold War regime, in their divided home country based on a set schedule. On the other hand, this study examines the memories and narratives of the inmates who routinely experienced the Omura camp. The study analyzes the contrast in memories and narratives of the inmates, paying attention to the age and gender-based differences in camp experience that appear in the interview survey. In the case of men, deprivation of activeness and independence in isolated spaces did not lead to an active self-narrative to detention experience, while in the case of women, the narrative of the community as sharing food and leisure with family and hometown people was represented. Through this survey, this paper analyzed the Omura detention camp experience from the perspective of asyl, which has the same origin as asylum.
