국문 초록

본 글은 근기남인 이헌경(李獻慶)의 이세론(理勢論)과 심성론을 분석함으로써 그의 사상적 특징과 나아가 근기남인 세계관의 일단을 분석하고자 하였다. 이헌경은 이(理)와 세(勢)로써 세계의 다양한 현상을 설명하고자 하였다. 그는 모든 현실에 내재되어 있는 이에 주목하고 이것을 자연법칙의 관점에서 해석하면서 시세와 권도를 중시하는 경세의식을 발전시켰다. 이를 중시하는 그의 사유는 심성론에도 반영되었다. 이헌경과 그의 아버지 이제화(李齊華)는 사단(四端)과 칠정(七情)이 하나의 근원을 갖는다고 생각하였고, 그 근원으로 이를 제시하였다. 이헌경 뿐만 아니라 남인 가운데 북인(北人) 학풍과 관련이 많은 인물들에게서 이헌경과 흡사한 사단 칠정 논의가 나타나고 있었다. 본 글은 이를 통하여 이헌경의 학문 속에 이황(李滉)의 영향에 더하여 북인 학풍이 잠재되어 있었음을 보이고자 하였다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzed the ideological characteristics of Yi Heongyeong (李獻慶, 1719∼1791) alongside the worldview of the Southerners faction in Gyeonggi province by examining his “Li (理, principle)-Se (勢, situation) theory” and “Sim (心, Heart Mind)-Seong (性, human nature) theory.” Yi Heongyeong attempted to explain various world phenomena in terms of the relationship between the concepts of principle and situation. He particularly focused his attention on Li that is inherent in all reality and interpreted it from the point of view of natural law. Through this, he formulated ideas that value the change of reality. Such concepts were also reflected in his Sim-Seong theory. Yi Heongyeong and his father, Yi Jehwa (李齊華, 1691∼1768), believed that Sadan (四端, four beginnings of human behavior) and Chilchong (七情, seven emotions of human behavior) had only one source, which they presented as Li. The Sadan Chilchong theory, which resembles Yi Heongyeong’s theory, was widespread within the Southerners faction whose academic tradition was related to that of the Northerners faction. Against this backdrop, this paper suggests that the Northerners faction’s academic tradition was latent in Yi Heongyeong’s scholarship.
