성석제 소설에 나타난 남성인물 형상화 고찰

국문 초록

성석제의 소설『투명인간』에서 남성인물이 시대적 상황과 사회적 특징에 따라 어떤 유형으로 형상화되고 있는가를 분석한 것이다. 대부분의 여성 소설 속에 등장하는 남성인물은 여성에게 고통을 주거나 억압하는 인물들로 나타나 있다. 하지만 『투명인간』에서 남성을 단순화하여 여성을 억압하는 존재로만 보는 시각을 넘어서 각 시대별로 왜 그런 남성인물 유형이 나올 수밖에 없는가에 대한 근본적인 원인에 대하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 : 한국남성의 변화과정을 분석해 본 결과 남성의 역할이란 고정된 것이 아니라 시대적 배경과 사회적 상황이라는 관계 속에서 변화하고 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 다음으로 『투명인간』에서 남성인물은 세 종류로 형상화되고 있는데 논의의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫 번째는 무력한 남성이며 두 번째는 희생형 남성이다. 그리고 세 번째는 이기적인 남성으로 형상화되어 있다. 결론짓자면 『투명인간』에 등장하는 남성 인물들의 삶은 가족의 생계를 부양해야 하는 책임에서 벗어날 수가 없었지만, 삼남 석수의 삶을 통해 변화하고 있는 남성의 유형을 살펴보았다. 그러므로 남성의 역할이라는 것도 가족 서사속에서 시대와 사회와의 밀접한 관계 속에서 유동적으로 변화한다는 것을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

In this paper, we analyzed the types of male characters in Sung Seok-je s novel Transparent Man. The male characters appearing in most female novels are those who cause or repress women. However, in 『Invisible Man』, we analyzed the fundamental cause of why such types of male characters must appear in each era, going beyond the view of simply seeing women as being suppressed by simplifying men. As a result of analyzing the process of change of men in Korean society, it can be seen that the role of men is not fixed, but is changing in the relationship between the time background and the social situation. Next, in 『Invisible Man』, male characters are formed into three types, and the results of the discussion are as follows. The first is a helpless man, and the second is a sacrificial man. And the third is shaped as a selfish man. To conclude, the lives of male characters in 『Invisible Man』 could not escape from the responsibility to provide for the family s livelihood, but we looked at the changing types of men through the life of third son Seok-su. Therefore, it can be confirmed that the role of men changes fluidly in the close relationship between the times and society in the family narrative.
