국문 초록

본 연구는 경제, 경찰, 인구통계, 보안활동, 그리고 정보기술 측면에서 범죄 감소의 원인을 조사하고자 한 연구이다. 분석기간은 1990년부터 2019년까지이며, ARIMA 시계열 분석을 활용하여 데이터를 분석하였다. 본 연구는 경제, 치안 전략, 경찰 증원, 인구통계학적 변화, 개선된 보안활동, 그리고 휴대폰의 이용이 살인, 강도, 폭력, 사기 및 공연음란죄를 포함한 5대 범죄에 있어 범죄 감소를 원인을 규명하려 한 것이다. 본 연구는 70-80대 인구 규모를 통제변수로 하였다. 분석 결과, 치안 전략, 경찰 증원, 인구통계학적 변화, 개선된 보안활동 및 휴대폰 사용이 범죄 감소와 상당한 관련성이 있는 것으로 나타났지만, 호황경기와는 관련성이 없는 것으로 분석되었다. 이를 통해, 경찰인력, 10대 및 청년의 감소, 감시 카메라 및 휴대폰 증가는 범죄 감소에 영향을 줄 수 있다고 결론 내릴 수 있다. 다만, 본 연구는 한국형 범죄 현상을 통해 범죄 감소의 원인을 규명하였기에 일정 부분 한계는 존재한다.

영문 초록

This study is to investigate the causes of the crime drop in terms of the economy, police, demographics, security activities, and information technology. The sample period is from 1990 to 2019, ARIMA time-series analysis is employed to analyze the data. This study uses strong economy, policing strategies, more police, demographic changes, improved security, and mobile phone as the causes of the crime drop in five crimes including homicide, burglary, assault, fraud, and indecent exposure. This study also contains population size aged 7 to 80 as a control variable. As results of the analysis, policing strategies, more police, demographic changes, improved security, and mobile phone have significant relationships with crime drop, but strong economy does not. From these relationships, we conclude that police staff, decreased teenagers and young adults, and increased surveillance cameras and mobile phones contribute to crime drop. We explain the causes of the crime drop in Korean-criminal phenomena, with the limitation of the study.
