국문 초록

본 연구는 글로벌 제약 기업의 여유 자원이 기술 자산 정리에 미치는 영향에 대하여 살펴보았다. 또한 본국의 제도적 전유성이 여유 자원의 기술 자산 정리에 미치는 영향에 있어 어떠한 조절 효과를 하는지에 대하여서도 함께 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 기업의 대표적 기술 자산인 특허에 집중하여 연구를 진행하였다. 2007년부터 2016년까지 총 564개 기업 연도 자료를 이용하였다. 분석 결과, 여유 자원의 수준이 높을수록 기술 자산 정리를 활발히 하는 것으로 나타났다. 일반적으로 정리 활동은 결핍이 큰 상황에서 활발히 일어난다고 여겨져 왔으나, 본 연구 결과는 여유 자원이 높은 상황과 같이 풍요로운 경우에도 활발할 수 있다는 사실을 보여주고 있다. 제도적 전유성이 높은 국가에 본사가 위치한 글로벌 제약기업의 경우 여유 자원이 기술 자산 정리 활동에 미치는 영향력이 더욱 강화되었다. 그동안 간과되어 온 자산 정리 활동에 대한 여유 자원의 영향력을 살펴봄으로써 관련 연구의 폭을 넓힐 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study examined the effects of slack resources on technological resource divestiture of global pharmaceutical firms. Furthermore, this study scrutinized the moderating effect of institutional appropriability of home country on the relationship between slack resources and technological resource divestiture. In order to conduct an empirical analysis, this study focused on patents, which are representative technological resources of the firms. The overall sample consists of 564 firm year observations based on the year of 2007 to 2016. Our empirical analysis of the global pharmaceutical firms shows that firms with high slack resources exhibit a tendency to divest technological resources. While previous studies argued deficiency represents the strongest predictor of divestiture, this study showed that divestiture can be actively performed even in the case of abundance, such as a condition with high slack resources. Global pharmaceutical firms headquartered in countries with high institutional appropriability, the effects of slack resources on technological resource divestiture has been further strengthened. We expect to be able to broaden the scope of related research by examining the influence of slack resources on resource divesting activities that have been overlooked.
