국문 초록

한국 문학사에서 「남으로 창을 내겠소」라는 시작품의 작가로 널리 알려진 월파 김상용은 전원파 시인으로 관습적으로 평가되어 온 측면이 있다.이러한 평가는 김상용의 문학적 특징이나 역량을 제대로 설명하지 못한다.첫째 김상용의 문학은 시뿐만 아니라 수필,평론,답사문 등 다양한 장르에 걸쳐 있기 때문이다.하나의 시 작품에 집중된 관심과 시인으로서만 인지됨으로써 그의 문학이 가진 의미를 협소하게 이해한 한계가 노출된다.둘째,김상용이 기술해온 다양한 장르에는 사회주의나 모더니즘,또는 민족주의 등의 사조적 경향성들이 다양하게 드러난다.그래서 전원파라는평가는 답습되고 고착화된 문학사의 제한적 시각의 결과가 아닌가라는 의문을 품게한다.따라서 본고에서는 김상용의 전체 작품에서 라이트모티프처럼 자주 언급되는‘허무’를 통해 그의 허무의식의 변화를 고찰해봄으로써 작가와 그의 작품의 경향성을재고해보려고 했다.초기시의 ‘허무’의 의식은 슬픔이나 죽음과 같이 현실과 삶을 수동적·부정적으로 드러낸다.그러나 점차로 통시적 흐름의 감정변화의 운동성 속에서, 다양한 장르들이 연결 접속된 총체적 시점으로 볼 때 김상용은 절망적 허무주의에서 지속적으로 탈주를 시도한 실존적 허무주의자가 아닌가 하는 이해를 가능하게 한다는 점에서 그동안의 전원파적 시인이라는 평가는 재고의 여지가 있음을 드러내게된다.

영문 초록

Kim Sang-yong, the famous Korean literary figure who wrote the work I Have a Window in the South, has typically been regarded as a pastoral poet. However, this perception fails to capture the full breadth of Kim Sang-young s literary abilities and the many features of his work. Firstly his literary work covers not only poetry, but also essay, criticism, and exploration writing. Thus, being designated primarily as a poet limits the scope and meaning of his work, and betrays a narrow understanding of his defining literary characteristics. Secondly, Kim Sang-yong s diverse fields of technology show a trend close to nearby area such as socialism, modernism, and nationalism. Therefore, it can be concluded that the perception of Kim Sang-yong as a pastoral poet is informed by a single work. Therefore, in this thesis, we have followed the flow of emotion throughout Kim Sang-yong s entire body of work, and in particular, we examined the changes in the sense of futility he evokes. In his early career, this sense of futility was articulated with a passive and negative character, seen in his treatment of realities of life such as sorrow and death. However, over the gradual course of time, when viewed from an overarching perspective which connects the various genres he worked in, the sense of futility with which he wrote can be understood, in fact, as an active and positive feature. In terms of the nihilism for which he is also known, Kim Sangyong moved from hopeless nihilism to existential nihilism, thus his categorization as a pastoral poet should be reconsidered in light of this.
