국문 초록

회화, 조각, 건축을 중심으로 총체적인 예술을 구현하고자 만들어진 독일의 조형예술학교인 바우하우스는 시각예술 전반에 걸친 새로운 사고와 교육방식으로 100여년이 지난 오늘날까지 연구되며 그 영향력을 끼치고 있다. 바우하우스 예비과정의 철학적, 인문학적 교육은 예술의 전체성을 인정하고, 영역을 넘나드는 연계와 통합을 이루어, 조각을 포함한 순수미술에 있어 자유 작업을 하는 데 큰 영향력을 끼쳤다. 또한 작업장교육을 통해 재료에 대한 이해를 높이고, 다양한 오브제들을 입체 작업의 소재로 들여왔다. 바우하우스에서 조각은 전통적인 영역에만 머무르지 않았다. 예비과정과 작업장과정으로 이루어진 교육을 통해 기술의 과학적 접근과 사물에 대한 철학적 접근을 가능하게 함으로써, 현대 조각을 비약적으로 확장시켰다. 이러한 바우하우스 교육체계 속에서 조각교육은 어떻게 진행되었는지 연구해 보고, 새로운 장르로 확장을 꾀할 수 있었던 가능성에 대해 확인해 본다.

영문 초록

Bauhaus was a German formative art school founded to embody total art around paintings, sculpture, and architecture. Known for its new ideas and educational approaches across the field of visual art, it has been the subject of research for approximately 100 years and still exerts its influence. Its philosophical and humanistic education in its preparatory course recognized the totality of art and achieved connection and integration among different areas, having enormous impacts on free works in pure fine arts including sculpture. In addition, Bauhaus promoted the understanding of materials through workshop education and introduced various objets as materials for three-dimensional works. At Bauhaus, sculpture did not remain in the traditional realm. Its education comprised of the preparatory and workshop courses enabled a scientific approach to technologies and a philosophical one to objects, thus expanding modern sculpture rapidly. This study set out to examine how sculpture education proceeded in this educational system of Bauhaus and check its possibilities of expanding into a new genre.
