土壤微細形態分析을 利用한 松菊里型住居地 生活面層과 U字型黑色土層에 대한 硏究

국문 초록

그동안 청동기시대에 관한 다양한 분야의 연구가 축적되어 왔음에도 불구하고 청동기시대 주거지, 특히 송국리형 주거지의 내부 공간 이용상에 대한 연구는 다소 한정적인 편이다. 근래에 토양 미세형태분석과 같은 토양 분석을 활용하여 내부 공간 이용상에 대한 이해를 높이고자 하는 시도가 있어왔다. 이와 같은 시도의 일환으로 본고에서는 전주 동산동 유적의 송국리형 주거지를 대상으로 실시한 토양 분석의 결과를 소개하고자 한다. 토양 미세형태분석 결과, 85호 주거지의 중심부에 가까운 생활면 지점에서는 회백색토와 검은띠 미세층의 조합이 5차례 이상 반복적으로 퇴적된 양상이 확인되었다. 원시적 마감재로 추정되는 회백색토 사이에 생성된 검은띠는 주로 물에 의해 수평적으로 생성된 산화철이나 미세탄화물이 풍부한 다양한 형태의 불순점토토양상 등으로 이루어 졌음이 관찰되었다. 이러한 정황은 이 구역에서 물에 의한 청소와 같은 주기적인 관리행위가 있었음을 시사한다. 반면, 동 주거지의 다른 생활면층에서 채취한 시료에서는 회백색토가 단일층의 형태를 보이고 대형 탄화물 등의 인공 유입물이 적어 이 곳이 주로 취침이나 휴게 등의 용도로 사용된 장소로 추정되는 등 주거지의 지점마다 거주관련 행위가 상이했음을 짐작케 한다. 한편, 85호와 34호 주거지유구의 내부 U자 흑색토층에서는 2차 사용과 같은 유의미한 문화행위의 흔적을 확인하지 못하였다. 관찰결과, 구지표에서 유래한 유기질과 탄화물이 풍부한 퇴적토가 지하수위 변동과 잦은 침수로 인해 생성된 산화철 물질과 결합하며 이 같은 흑색토층을 만들어 낸 것으로 추정된다. 본 연구의 결과는 비록 일부 주거지의 사례에 불과하지만, 이 같은 자료가 축적되면 송국리인의 가내 생활상을 규명하는데 일조할 것으로 생각된다.

영문 초록

Despite the accumulation of research in diverse fields of the Bronze Age in Korea, comparatively little has been conducted on the use of interior space in Bronze Age houses, particularly Songgukri type houses. That said, ongoing efforts to advance understanding of interior space utilization through geoarchaeological methodologies such as soil micromorphology are attenuating this deficiency. As part of this endeavor, this inquiry intends to introduce the outcome of soil micromorphological analysis conducted on Songgukri type houses. The results of soil micromorphological analysis reveal that a combination of grayishwhite soil and black lens had been repetitively deposited at least five times in the living floor levels near the center of House No. 85 due to periodic activities including cleaning with water in situ. It is observed that black lenses formed between layers of grayish-white soil, which are believed to be primitive finishes, consist mainly of various dusty clay features with iron oxide or microcharcoals generated horizontally by water. This observation suggests that periodic management activities such as cleaning by water were performed in this area. On the contrary, the thin section collected from another living floor area of the same house exhibits a single layer of grayish-white soil. It is presumed that this area was mainly used for sleeping or resting given the less anthropogenic inclusions. Thus, it can be inferred that domestic activities noticeably differed at each distinguishable spot of the house. Meanwhile, no significant traces of cultural activities, such as its secondary use, were identified in the U-shaped black-colored deposits in Houses Nos. 34 and 85. Microscopic observations revealing the presence of organic- and charcoal-rich sediments with many iron nodules and stainings imply that groundwater fluctuations and frequent surface floodings produced the black-colored deposits. Although the sample size of this geoarchaeological inquiry is limited, the accumulation of such data is ultimately expected to aid in reconstructing and revivifying domestic life in Bronze Age Songgukri type houses. Finally, this case calls for greater attention to soil deposition in house structures for greater comprehension and appreciation of the living floor formation process and related domestic life before irreplaceable soil data is destroyed in the course of excavation.
