국문 초록

데이터의 양이 기하급수적으로 증가하는 21세기 디지털 정보시대에 데이터에 근거한 의사결정 능력은 무엇보다 중요한 능력으로 간주된다. 직장에서의 성공 여부는 학부 전공보다는 비판적 사고, 분명한의사소통능력, 복잡한 문제해결 능력 등으로 좌우되며 이러한 능력은 데이터 리터러시를 통해서 함양된다. 이 연구는 해외 대학교를 포함한 여러 분야에서 진행하고 있는 데이터 리터러시 관련 교육내용을조사하고, 이를 바탕으로 21세기 핵심 역량 강화를 위한 교양기초교육으로서의 데이터 리터러시를분석하였다. 리터러시는 개인이 자신의 목표를 달성하고, 지식과 잠재력을 계발하며, 지역사회를 비롯해 더 넓은사회에 완전히 참여할 수 있도록 하는 일련의 학습을 포함한다. 데이터 리터러시는 현실 세계의 데이터를다양한 관점에서 바라보고, 근거 있는 적절한 판단과 결정을 할 수 있는 문제해결 능력이며, 비판적사고를 통해 지식을 창출하는 근간이다. 교양기초교육에서 데이터 리터러시의 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 비판적 사고를 포함한 사고의 확장과 지식 창출을 통해 21세기 핵심 역량을 제고한다. 둘째, 문·이과 전공과 관계없이 데이터 분석을 위한 기초통계 지식이 필요하고 파이썬이나 엑셀과 같은프로그램을 사용할 수 있으며, 학습내용이 매우 실용적이고 구체적이며 흥미롭다. 셋째, 교양의 기초교육영역에 개설된 컴퓨팅적 사고, 기초과학, 대학수학, 통계학 등의 과목별 교과목표 범위 내에서 개인적, 사회적, 과학적 맥락의 데이터를 활용하여 프로젝트 기반 학습 방식이 가능하다. 데이터 리터러시는 데이터 사용 의존도가 높아지는 사회에서 인재가 반드시 갖추어야 할 능력이고왜곡된 데이터가 만들어낸 가짜 뉴스를 구분할 수 있는 민주시민의 기본 역량이다. 이것이 바로 대학의교양기초교육에서 데이터 리터러시에 관심을 두어야 하는 이유이다.

영문 초록

When the volume of available data continues to increase at an exponential rate as the IOT(internet of things) grows, the increased desire people, including employers for data-driven decision making. To achieve long-term career success, 4C skills are more important to an individual’s success at the company than his or her undergraduate major. This study investigated the contents of data literacy education in various fields, including top universities, and analyzed the data literacy in the core curriculum to improve students 4C skills: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Literacy involves a continuum of learning in enabling individuals to achieve their goals, to develop their knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in their community and wider society. Data literacy is the ability to look at real-world data from various perspectives, to make well-founded judgments and decisions, and is the basis for constructing knowledge through critical thinking. Data literacy in the core curriculum should firstly improve the 4C skills by expanding thinking, including critical thinking, and constructing knowledge. Second, regardless of the major or field of study, basic statistics is needed for data analysis, and tools such as Python and Excel are used. Nevertheless, the contents of learning are very practical, specific and interesting. Third, a project-based learning method is possible by using real-world data from personal, social and scientific contexts within computational thinking, basic science, mathematics, and statistics in the core curriculum. Data literacy is an essential ability for any student in such a data-rich society, and a citizen’s ability to distinguish fake news generated by distorted data is becoming crucial. This is why we should be interested in data literacy in the core curriculum.
