일본에서의 제주도 연구의 성과와 과제

국문 초록

이 글의 목적은 해방 이후 일본에서의 제주도 연구의 성과와 과제를 제시하는데 있다. 제주도 연구 자료는 일본 국립정보학연구소의 NII학술정보내비게이터(CiNii)와 국립국회도서관, 과학연구비조성사업DB(KAKEN) 등의 학술연구정보서비스에서 키워드 ‘제주’, ‘탐라’로 검색한 후 활용하였다. 분야별로는 인문학, 사회과학, 자연과학, 기타 등으로, 주제 대상별로는 재일제주인 연구, 제주4ㆍ3 연구, 오키나와에서의 제주연구, 박사 논문 등으로 분류하여 연구목록을 정리 분석하였다. 이렇게 대분류한 연구 목록을 바탕으로 연대별, 문헌별, 주제별 연구 주요 내용 등의 분석을 통해 일본에서의 제주 관련 연구 동향을 고찰하였다. 학문 분야별로는 인문학에서 가장 많은 연구 성과가 있으며, 주제별로는 제주의 역사와 고고학, 제주의 자연 환경과 생활문화, 민속 문화, 지역 개발, 관광, 경제, 재일제주인, 제주4ㆍ3 등 인문적ㆍ사회적ㆍ자연적 환경을 둘러싼 전반적인 주제로 연구 활동이 이루어지고 있다. 연대별로는 자연과학 분야 이외의 다른 분야는 1990년대 이후 연구 성과가 두드러지고, 문헌별로는 학술지 논문이 가장 많은 비중을 차지하고 있다. 앞으로 ‘제주학’이 지역학으로서 더욱 발전하기 위해서는 국외의 제주 관련 연구 자료의 종합적 데이터베이스 구축을 비롯하여 학문적ㆍ시사적 가치 있는 연구 자료들을 번역 소개, 연구자들의 인적 네트워크 구축이 필요하다. 이러한 연구 환경이 조성된다면, 국내외에서 후세대들이 체계적ㆍ지속적으로 제주도 연구를 진행하는데 큰 도움이 될 것이다.

영문 초록

The aim of this paper is to present the achievements and remaining tasks of Jeju researches in Japan since Korea’s liberation in 1945. The materials used for the research on Jeju were searched under the keywords “Jeju” and “Tamla” from academic research information services including Scholarly and Academic Information Navigator(CiNii) in NII(National Institute of Informatics) of Japan, National Diet Library, and Database of Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research(KAKEN). I organized and analyzed the research list by categorizing it into humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and others, and also by dividing them into topics such as Zainichi Jeju Islanders, Jeju 4.3 studies, Jeju studies in Okinawa, and Ph.D. thesis. Based on the research list categorized in this manner, this paper examined the Jeju-related research trends in Japan by analyzing the major research contents according to their periods, literature formats, and topics. The biggest number of researches has been in humanities in terms of discipline. In terms of topics, research activities are being carried out on overall themes surrounding cultural, social, and natural environment, such as the history and archeology of Jeju, the natural environment and ways of life in Jeju, folk culture, local development, tourism, economy, Zainich Jeju Islanders, and Jeju 4.3. In terms of periods being studied, in areas other than natural science, there has been remarkable research progress in period after the 1990s. Academic journal article is the most dominant literature format. In order for “Jeju studies” to be further developed as an area study, it is necessary to build a comprehensive database of Jeju-related researches abroad. It is also needed to translate and introduce academically advanced or timely works, and to build a network of scholars. Constructing such research environment will be a great help for future generation of researchers to conduct systematic and continuous research on Jeju Island both at home and abroad.
