광주학생독립운동의 중국 동북(만주)지역 확산과 한인 학생·민족운동 세력의 호응

국문 초록

‘광주학생독립운동’은 1929년 11월 3일 광주에서의 한·일 학생 충돌과 학생시위를 시작으로 1930년 3월까지 전국적으로, 나아가 해외지역까지 확산·전개된 학생운동을 의미한다. 3·1운동 및 6·10만세운동과 함께 일제강점기 3대 독립운동의 하나로 평가되고 있다. 광주학생독립운동은 그 이후의 독립운동 혹은 민족해방운동을 격화시키는 도화선이 되었다. 따라서 그 의의는 매우 크다고 할 수 있지만, 우리는 그에 상응한 정당한 평가를 하지 못하는 경향이 있다. 특히 해외 학생운동이나 민족운동의 발전과 관련된 내용은 앞으로 더욱 심층적 연구가 필요한 실정이다. 이에 필자는 ‘광주학생독립운동’의 전개 및 확산 양상을 주로 1930년 1~3월에 중국 연변(延邊, 북간도) 및 만주(중국 동북지방) 전역에서 전개된 학생들의 호응 활동과 관련 단체들의 동향을 개략적으로 검토하고 그 특성과 의의 등을 종합하고자 했다. 검토 결과 중국 龍井과 연변지역, 나아가 吉林·봉천(현재 瀋陽)·하얼빈 일대 등 전 중국 동북지역(만주)에서 일반적으로 알려진 것보다 훨씬 강력하고 큰 호응과 지지, 많은 학교와 학생들의 동참 시위가 있었던 사실이 확인되었다, 또한 많은 민족운동 단체와 지도자들도 광주학생독립운동에 적극 호응하였다. 결국 광주학생독립운동을 매개로 중국 연변지역이나 중국 동북(만주)지역의 각종 학생운동, 사회운동이 더욱 고양되고, 나아가 광주학생독립운동이 이 지역의 향후 민족운동이나 1930년대 항일무장투쟁에 중요한 영향을 주었다고 평가할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Gwangju Student Independence Movement’ refers to the independence movement driven by Korean students that started with the collision of Korean and Japanese students on November 3rd, 1929, triggering nationwide and international student protests up until March 1930. It is regarded as one of the three main Korean Independence Movements during the Japanese colonial period along with the March 1st Independence Movement in 1919 and the June 10th Movement in 1926. Gwangju Student Independence Movement is considered to have intensified other Korean independence or liberation movements, and therefore, holds a significant meaning. However, we tend not to evaluate it accordingly to the contribution it made. In particular, more studies should be conducted to better understand its effect on overseas student independence movements or Korean liberation movements. That is why I reviewed the development and expansion of ‘Gwangju Student Independence Movement’ in regard to activities carried out by students and liberation groups from January to March 1930 in Yanbian and Manchuria (North-eastern area of China) regions in China, and intended to figure out its characteristics and meanings. ‘Gwangju Student Independence Movement’ showed a high participation rate in which schools from 12 districts(92.3%), 81 counties(37.2%), 1 province [Iland](50%) among 13 districts, 218 counties, 2 provinces participated from October 1929 to March 1930. The movement also affected movements in mainland China, Manchuria, Maritime Province of Russia, Japan, and the United States. It is believed that overall 280(or 320) schools in-and outside of Korea joined the movement. Thus, it is no exaggeration to see it as a ‘nationwide’ as well as an ‘international’ scale independence(liberation) movement. In particular, the level of response and support from schools and students through protests in overall north-eastern area(Manchuria) of China including Lungjing, Yanbian, and Jilin, Fengtien, and Harbin were stronger than generally known. Moreover, it is identified that a number of liberation groups and leaders actively responded to Gwangju Student Independence Movement. Therefore, Gwangju Student Independence Movement can be considered as a medium that boosted diverse student and social movements in Yanbian and Manchuria. Furthermore, the movement significantly affected other liberation movements and armed struggle against Japanese Imperialism in the 1930s.
