특허권 취득공시의 가치관련성에 따른 시장별 차이분석

국문 초록

기업이 처한 경영환경은 지식중심으로 빠르게 변화하고 있으며, 이러한 경영환경의 변화는 기업의 가치창출 동인이 유형자산에서 무형자산으로 이동하는 유인이 되었다. 21세기 지식기반 사회에서는 무형자산 중 특허권의 창출·보호·관리 그리고 활용이 기업경영의 중요전략으로 대두됐으나 우리나라의 많은 기업들은 무형자산의 관리 측면에서는 아직도 부족하다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 2004년부터 2007년까지 특허권 취득 정보를 공시한 코스피·코스닥 상장 기업을 대상으로 특허권 취득공시의 가치관련성을 검정하기 위하여 사건연구방법을 사용하였으며, 특허권 취득공시의 가치관련성에 따른 기업 특성요인에 대한 시장별(코스피, 코스닥)차이를 실증분석하기 위하여 기업가치를 초과수익률(CAR)로 하는 가변수회귀모형을 사용하였다. 또한 추가적으로 기업가치를 Tobin s Q로 하는 가변수회귀모형을 사용하여 연구결과를 비교·분석하였다. 연구결과, 특허권 취득공시의 가치관련성을 검정한 결과, 코스닥시장의 경우 특허권 취득공시에 따른 통계적으로 유의한 양(+)의 초과수익률이 검증되었으며, 이는 특허권 취득에 따른 정보효과는 코스닥시장에서 유용한 정보로 인식되어 투자자들의 의사결정에 영향을 줌으로써 자본시장의 위험을 줄여주는 것으로 나타났다. 특허권 취득공시의 가치관련성에 따른 기업 특성요인에 대한 시장별 차이를 검정한 결과, 자산, 개발비 그리고 매출액영업이익률의 경우 특허권 취득공시에 따른 기업가치와 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 검증되었다. 또한 개발비와 매출액영업이익률은 특허권 취득공시의 가치관련성에 따른 시장차이가 검증되었으며, 이는 개발비지출과 매출액영업이익률에 대해 코스닥시장의 참여자들이 코스피시장의 참여자들 보다 기업가치를 높게 평가한다는 것을 시사하고 있다.

영문 초록

The management environment facing companies is rapidly changing towards the knowledge-based one, and such changes in the environment have turned the corporate value driver from tangible assets to intangible assets. In the 21st century of knowledge-based society, creation, protection, management and utilization of patents have emerged as critical corporate management strategies, but many companies in Korea still have a long way to go to properly manage their intangible assets. In this study, we used market research methodologies to verify the value relevance in the disclosure of patent acquisition for companies listed in KOSPI and KOSDAQ that disclosed the information of patent acquisition from 2004 to 2007. We used the dummy variable regression model in which the corporate value is assessed by the Cumulative Abnormal Return (CAR) in order to make empirical analysis of the differences of each of the markets (KOSPI and KOSDAQ) on the firm-specific factors of the value relevance to patent acquisition disclosure. Moreover, we compared and analyzed the research results, using the dummy variable regression model in which the corporate value is assessed by Tobin’s Q. As a consequence of verifying the value relevance to the patent acquisition disclosure, KOSDAQ market to the patent acquisition disclosure revealed a statistically significant positive CAR. It showed that the information contents of patent acquisition were recognized as useful information for investors to make decisions, easing the capital market risks, in turn. As a result of analyzing the specific trait factors with a significant relations with the value relevance to the patent disclosure and verifying the market-specific differences, assets, development costs and the ratio of operating profit to net sales revealed a statistically significant relations with the corporate value of to patent acquisition disclosure. Furthermore, development costs and the ratio of operating profit to net sales showed the market differences resulting from the value relevance of the patent acquisition disclosure. It showed that KOSDAQ market participants more highly evaluated the corporate value than KOSPI market participants as far as the expenditure of development costs and the ratio of operating profit to net sales were concerned.
