삶과 죽음에 대한 안중근의 종교적 해석과 그 평가

국문 초록

안중근은 삶의 의미를 “천명이 무엇인가 하는” 종교적 문제에서 찾았다. 그는 한국독립과 동양평화 실현이라는 천명론에 따라 이토를 처단하였다. 이러한 맥락에서 그는 이토 히로부미 처단의 정당성을 ‘동양평화’와 ‘한국독립’ 실현이라는 천명론에서 찾았고 그 구현 방법론으로 동양평화론을 제시하였던 것이다. 안중근은 천명을 실천할 주체를 사람으로 상정하였다. 그는 천명이 저절로 실현되는 것이 아니라 천명을 자각한 의인만이 천명을 실천할 수 있다고 보았다. 이러한 그의 면모를 간파한 박은식은 그를 ‘평화의 대표자로 나선 사람’이라고 평가하였던 것이다. 안중근은 천명이란 현세를 한국이 독립되고 동양의 평화가 구현된 ‘도덕세계’를 만들라는 신의 명령으로 이해하고 있었던 것으로 보인다. 더욱이 그는 천명을 구현하기 위해 죽음을 마다하지 않고 최선을 다했으므로 천당에 갈 수 있다는 확신을 갖고 있었다. 또한 그는 그의 주검을 하얼빈에 묻어달라는 유언을 남김으로써 죽어서도 한국독립과 동양평화 구현의 밑거름이 되고자 하였다.

영문 초록

The present work studies how Ahn Jung-geun viewed life and death from the religious perspective and how it is currently appreciated. It seems that Ahn found the answer to the religious questions for his life that one needs to follow what is ordained by God. Within the historical context at that time, his understanding of God’s order was to devote himself to the peace of East Asia and the independence of Korea. Consequently, Ahn assassinated Ito Hirobumi whom he saw as the evil axis. As for the theoretical background for the peace of East Asia, he composed ‘The Theory for the Peace of East Asia’ during his confinement in the prison. As a Catholic, he believed that he could go to heaven only when he conducted God’s order. For him, it was to realize the world where the peace pervades and Korea achieves freedom and independence. Therefore he sacrificed his life to manifest God’s order in the world, and he never doubted to be granted with God. Also, he left his will to bury his body in Harbin, China so that he could devote himself to the independence of Korea and the peace of East Asia after his death. His life and death were appreciated by Korean independence activists that they designated Ahn as a martyr. His death was described as ‘the rainbow of white and red silk’ in Gunseiyeoksa, the first biography of Ahn Jung-guen. Kim Ha-goo’s appreciation of his death was that of Jesus Christ. Kye Bong-woo compared Ahn’s life to that of Moses and believed his presence with Jesus Christ. Not only Chinese leaders but even Japanese people praised him for his martyrdom.
