대학필독서를 활용한 교양교육 사례 연구

국문 초록

최근 들어 책읽기, 그리고 책읽기 기반 글쓰기나 토론으로 교양교육의 내용과 형식이 변화하고 있다. 이 교육의 원천소스가 바로 필독서이다. 본고는대학 교양교육에서 필독서의 정체성 내지 존재의의를 따져보고, 필독서를 활용한 구체적인 교육 모델을 제시하였다. 한림대학교 소통기초 교과목인 <읽기와 쓰기>에서 독서보고서 쓰기, 비교과 프로그램인 4통(通) 프로그램의 하나인 심비우스독서토론대회가 그것이다. 본고는 교과와 비교과 연계, 필독서 기반 프로그램의 실질적 운영에초점을 맞춰 기술하였다. 2장에서는 각 대학 필독서의 선정기준과 목록을 살펴보고, 보편성과 가치중립성이라는 선정기준, 고전 중심의 권위를 탈피할 필요가 있다고 보았다. 한림대 필독서의 선정 기준과 특징은 학생들의 독서수준과 시의성을 반영하고, 동서양 고전의 적절한 비율 안배를 고려했다는 점이다. 필독서 선정 작업에서 시대 변화와 대학 교육의 지향점에 따라 변경 가능하다는 개방적 자세를취할 것을 제안했다. 3장 필독서의 교과 연계 운영방안에서는 <읽기와 쓰기> 교과목에서 한학기에 2회 시행되는 독서보고서 작성 사례를 소개하였다. 1회 차는 책의 한챕터를 읽고, 논제에 맞게 글을 쓰는 형식, 2회 차는 한 권의 책을 읽고 서평을 작성하는 것으로 차별을 두었다. 한림대의 경우 필독서 기반 읽기-쓰기, 필수이수 학점과 연계, 신입생들의 읽기 능력을 고려한 한 장(chapter)과 한 책읽기, 현실 사회의 쟁점을 톺아볼 수 있는 논제 개발, 체계적인 첨삭상담 등에서 다른 대학의 읽기-쓰기 수업과 차별성을 띤다. 4장 필독서의 비교과 연계 운영에서는 심비우스 독서토론대회 운영사례를서술했다. 경쟁보다는 협력과 공생에 초점을 맞춘 점, 텍스트에서 문제의식을도출하고 토론을 하는 과정에 익숙하지 않은 학생들을 고려하여 사전 오리엔테이션에서 점검사항을 상세히 안내한 점, 토론의 집중성을 위해 한림대식토론대회 모델을 고안한 점을 특성으로 들었다. 결론에서는 일반적으로 1학년에게만 집중된 읽기-쓰기, 읽기-말하기 교육의 틀을 재점검하고, 대학 교양교육 전 과정에서 필독서 기반 교과, 비교과프로그램이 운영될 수 있도록 체계적인 로드맵을 설계할 것을 제안했다.

영문 초록

Recently, the content and form of general education have been changed by the reading and the writing or the discussion based on the reading. The source of this education is the required reading book. This paper presented a concrete education model using the required reading book which is related with the identity of general education. This paper focused on the practical operation of the curriculum and extra-curriculum program based on the required reading book. In Chapter 2, I looked at the selection criteria and the required reading book lists of each universities, and emphasized that it was necessary to move away from selection criteria of universality and value neutrality, classic-centered authority. The selection criteria and characteristics of Hallym University s required reading book reflected the students reading level and timeliness, and considered the appropriate proportion of classic books(or great books). And I proposed to take an open stance that it can be changed according to the change of the age and the direction of the university education in the selection of required reading book. In chapter3, this paper introduced the case of reading report which is submitted twice a semester in the curriculum . The students read one chapter of the book and wrote according to the topic in fist report, while in second report, reading a book and writing a book review. In the case of Hallym University, the reading and writing based on the required reading book, and linking with the required credits, the thesis that can look at the issues of our society are the clear distinction with the other universities’s reading and writing programs. In Chapter 4, I introduced the ‘Simbyus Reading Debate Competition’ as the case of extra-curriculum program based on the required reading book. This reading debate focused on cooperation and symbiosis rather than competition, and gave the concrete guideline in the orientation for the students who were unfamiliar with the process of debate. And then that made the unique reading debate model focused on Hallym university. In conclusion, this paper proposed to re-examine the framework of reading-writing and reading-speaking education focused on the first grade only, and to re-design a systematic road map in the whole course of college general education.
