국문 초록

개념미술의 등장과 함께 적극 수용된 문자 매체는 미술의 새로운 표현 수단으로서 사용되었고, 다양한 표현으로 확장되며 언어로서, 그리고 조형매체로서 차지하는 중요성이 증대되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 현대미술의 다양한 문자 표현과 더불어 현대 도예에서 문자를 활용한 표현을 비교, 분석하여 문자가 표현매체로서 갖는 특성과 효과를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. Ⅱ장에서는 문자를 미술 분야에 사용하게 된 역사적 배경과 과정에 대하여 서술한다. 20세기 입체파에서 시작된 문자의 활용부터 다다이즘과 팝아트에서 제한적으로 수용된 문자, 주체적 표현요소로 활용하게 된 개념미술에서의 문자 표현을 알아본다. 그리고 실용적 목적의 제작이라는 한계를 벗어나 조형적 표현수단으로 변화되는 현대도예의 역사 속에서 문자가 수용되고 조형적 표현 매체로 활용되는 과정에 대하여 알아보았다. Ⅲ장에서는 2000년대 이후의 현대도예에서 문자를 활용한 표현들을 분석한다. 최근의 도예 작품들이 문자를 수용하는 방식들은 의미를 전달하는 기능으로서의 언어만이 아닌 개인과 대중을 연결하는 매개체로, 그리고 시각적 조형성을 보여주는 수단으로도 활용되며 다양하게 전개되고 있다. 현대도예에서 보이는 다양한 표현 양상들은 개념중심의 문자, 기록중심의 문자, 조형중심의 문자로 특성을 분류하여 분석하고 정리하였다. 이러한 표현 특성에 따른 분류와 분석을 통하여 의미전달과 조형성 추구를 위한 문자 표현의 다양성을 확인할 수 있었고, 현대도예의 직접적 표현매체로 중요성이 증가된 문자가 미술적 표현요소로서 갖는 가능성에 대하여 고찰할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The letter media, which started to be adopted actively with the advent of conceptual art, has been used as new expression tool of art, expanded into various expressions, making the its significance as a formative medium increasing. This study investigated the strength and possibility of letter expression by comparing and analyzing the characteristics of expression using letters in contemporary ceramics. Chapter II researched the historical background and process of the media, called letters which enables the acceptance in art field. From the use of letters that began in the 20th century cubism to restricted acceptance in Dadaism and pop art, and the letter expression in the conceptual art. In addition, we will identify the process in which letters are adopted and used as a medium of formative expression in the history of ceramics which is transformed into a means of formative expression beyond the limits of the production of practical purposes. Chapter III analyzed expressions using characters seen in contemporary ceramic art since the 2000s. In the ways in which recent ceramic works adopt letters, letters are not only used as language as a function of conveying meaning, but also as a medium for connecting individuals and the public, and as a means of showing visual formativeness, and are being developed in various ways. This study classified, analyzed and organized the characteristics of various expression patterns shown in contemporary ceramic art into concept-oriented letter, letter as records, and formative letter. Through this classification according to the characteristics of expression, it is possible to consider the meaning and possibility of expression using letter whose importance has increased as a direct medium of contemporary ceramics.
