後期加耶의 軍事組織에 대한 硏究

국문 초록

전쟁은 개인이나 집단의 생존과 직결되어 있으며, 따라서 무기는 최신의 기능적인 개량이 이루어지고, 각 집단은 조직화된 군사조직을 정비하게 된다. 결국 고대국가로 성장하기 위해서는 군사조직의 기저를 이루고 있는 하위의 전사계층이 조직화되어야 하며, 이들이 대규모의 전쟁을 수행할 수 있는 기반이 된다. 이러한 관점에서 후기가야 지역에서 철모나 도검, 철촉과 같은 공격용무기를 부장하고 있는 분묘를 대상으로 통계적인 분석을 시도하였다. 먼저 개별 무기에 대한 구사방법을 적극적으로 해석하여, 각 지역별로 부장양상을 검토하였다. 또한 무기의 조합과 분묘의 규모를 통해서 개인의 무장형태를 유형화하였으며, 각 지역별로 계층구조를 파악하여 군사조직의 발전 정도를 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 후기가야의 맹주로서 대가야는 집단적인 형태로 구사될 때 보다 유용한 장병기인 철모를 중심으로 무기의 개량이 이루어지고 있었다. 그리고 군사조직의 계층구조에 있어서도 장병 전사계층이 주력을 이루면서, 대규모의 전쟁을 수행할 수 있는 기반을 마련한 것으로 보았다. 이에 비해 아라가야나 소가야는 철모 중심의 무기체계를 확립하지 못하고, 단병 전사계층이 군사조직의 주력을 이루고 있었다. 대규모의 전쟁을 수행할 정도로 체계화되지 않았으며, 산별적인 전쟁이나 내부적인 질서를 유지하기 위한 군사조직이었던 것으로 파악하였다.

영문 초록

War is directly connected with the survival of an individual or a group, thus arms keep being functionally updated and each group maintains well-structured military organizations. For an ancient society to develope into a major dynasty, its lower warrior class comprising the military organization base must be well-organized and become a solid base to conduct a large-scale war. In this regard, a statistical analysis was made in this study to the tombs in the Latter Gaya region, in which offensive arms such as steel helmets, swords and arrowheads were buried together. First, the burial aspects for each area were examined based on an affirmative interpretation of the description for individual weapon. Second, the patterns of armament for individuals were classified based on the combination of arms and size of tombs. Third, development states of the military organizations were identified by examining hierarchical structures for each area. According to the analysis result, the improvement of arms in DaeGaya as a leading power of the Latter Gaya was made mainly on steel helmets which were useful arms for a long-distance fight applied rather in group. Regarding the hierarchical structure of the military organizations, the warrior class equipped for a long-distance fight became a main force and prepared a basis for conducting a large-scale war. On the other hand, AraGaya and SoGaya failed to establish such arms system focusing on steel helmets, instead their warrior classes equipped for a short-distance fight were the main force of the military organization. They lacked the systemic organization for a large-scale war, instead they acted as a military organization to engage in small-scale wars or internal peace-keeping.
