서예 걸개양식(簇子)의 기원 및 가치

국문 초록

전 세계의 인류가 역사적 사실이나 사건을 기록하고 이를 보존하려는 행위는, 이미 기원전부터 행해져 오고 있다. 그 과정에서 탄생한 서예는 독창적인 예술형식과 언어로 동양문화의 眞髓를 드러낸다. 아울러 기록의 가치를 넘어 이른바 예술이라는 영역에 이르기까지 부단한 발전을 거듭하고 있다. 그런데, 이를 보존하거나 돋보이게 하는 ‘양식’과의 관계에 있어서는 오히려 동떨어진 경향이 강하다. 그 결과 서예의 본질적 연구는 충분히 행해온 반면, ‘양식’에 관한 연구는 여전히 미흡하다. 서예와의 관련성은 고작 표구영역의 기술적 측면이나 고서화 감정에서 서예양식의 일부로써 간간히 다루어지는 정도이다. 서예의 본래 목적은 기록이라는 실용성에서 비롯되었다고 볼 수 있다. 그리고 그 내용을 안정적이고 광범위하게 전파하려는 의지가 양식의 형태로도 발전한 것이다. 따라서 기록의 행위도 당연히 중요하지만, 시공간을 초월한 보존 및 敎化의 목적성을 지닌 양식의 역할도 간과할 수 없다. 그 가운데에서 양식은 인간의 사고방식 및 생활수준에 적합하도록 부단한 변화를 꾀해 오고 있다. 흥미롭게도 이와 같은 과정에서 서예의 ‘걸개양식’이 출현하게 된다. 분야를 막론하고 그 추구의 마지막은 반드시 인간의 삶에 도움이 되어야 가치가 있다. 아무리 고귀한 사상이나 기술일지라도 일반인들과 공감할 수 없다면 무의미하다. 오늘날 서예영역에서의 작품제작을 중시하는 경향은 ‘양식’에 대한 무관심으로 이어지고 있다. 하지만, 양식은 서예의 존재가치를 높이는 매개물이기 때문에, 그 기원 및 가치연구는 반드시 ‘서예’의 범주에 포함시켜야 마땅하다. 본 논문은 역사적 고찰이 상대적으로 부족한 서예양식을 개괄적으로 살피면서, 특히 ‘걸개양식’에 관한 기원과 가치를 고찰하는데 중점을 두고 있다. 마지막으로 한국에서는 현재까지 걸개양식에 대한 본질적인 선행연구조차 확인되는 바가 없으므로, 본 연구가 선행연구로써의 가치를 지니도록 하는 것이 또 하나의 목적이기도 하다.

영문 초록

Mankind has recorded and preserved historical facts and events for thousands of years. Calligraphy created in the process can be said to be the essence of East Asian culture due to its unique art form and language. In addition, it continues to develop beyond the value as a means of recording to the field of art. However, when it comes to the relationship with the style that preserves or makes it stand out, it seems to be far from its development. Calligraphy is originally intended for the practicality of writing texts, and the intention to stably and extensively convey its contents is the very style. As such, “the style of hanging scroll” of calligraphy emerges as the style of calligraphy constantly seeks to change to suit the way of thinking and living standards of human beings, and the style has several characteristics. First, it is the recording method of vertical writing . It is related to the efficiency of conveying a lot of content with minimizing the motion, and it is directly related to the direction of writing the text. Second, it is the convenience represented as mobility . Thus, there is an attractiveness that can correspond to the needs of various living standards (communication, residential environment, information transfer, etc.) of human beings. Lastly, it is related to the recording environment. In particular, the development of the desk around the 10th century leads to the activation of the style of hanging scroll with the improvement of the manufacturing method of paper, the development of the mounting method, and the development of brush making technology. The style of hanging scroll of calligraphy is a medium that enhances the existence value of calligraphy works. Therefore, research on the origin and value of the style must be included in the category of calligraphy . This paper focuses on investigating the origins and values of ‘the style of hanging scroll , especially while examining the style of calligraphy, which lacks historical study.
