국문 초록

고래로부터 인류는 불을 숭배했다. 혹독한 겨울을 이길 수 있게 해주는 온기의 원천이며 포식자 짐승들로부터 보호해주는 불은 인류의 생존에 가장 일차적인 요소였다. 그래서 불은 꺼트려서는 안 되는 소중한 존재가 되었고, 동굴이나 천막의 중심에 위치해서 구성원의 중심이 되었다. 이러한 불에 대한 숭배는 매우 자연스런 현상으로 보인다. 본 연구는 시베리아 에벤족의 불 숭배의 모습과 의미를 고찰한다. 에벤족에게 불은 가족과 부족을 보호하는 신이었다. 에벤족의 천막 중심에 위치한 화로불은 거주공간의 성스러운 중심이며 불의 영이 거주하는 장소이다. 불 숭배는 시베리아 민족들에게 널리 퍼져 있는 현상이다. 불에게 여러 일을 의논하였으며, 성공적인 사냥 이후엔 불을 대접했다. 하는 일이 잘 되기를 빌기 위해서, 또 지역의 주인령들이 그들을 잘 받아들여 달라고 불에게 기원을 하였다. 불 숭배는 에벤족의 명절에서 반드시 행해지는 정화의식으로 나타난다. 일상생활에서도 불 숭배의 모습은 찾아 볼 수 있다. 그리고 샤먼의 모든 의식도 불의 영과 관련이 있다. 불의 영이 인간을 악령으로부터 보호하기 때문이다. 이러한 불 숭배는 불이 가지는 정화기능과 연관된다. 또한 불은 신과 인간의 중개자로 등장한다. 인간의 기도와 제물을 하늘에 전해주고 신의 은총을 인간에게 가져다주는 역할을 한다. 불의 중개자로서의 역할은 불이 인간들에게 미리 예언을 해 줄 수 있는 능력을 가지게 한다. 불은 타이가의 주인령이 말하는 전달해 줄 수 있기 때문이다. 불이 가지는 이러한 정화와 수호의 힘, 예언의 능력은 에벤족에게 불을 신의 격으로 올리게 되었다.

영문 초록

Since ancient times, humanity has worshiped fire. The source of warmth that allows us to overcome the harsh winters and the fire that protects against predator beasts was the most important factor in human survival. Therefore, fire became a precious being that should not be extinguished, and it became the center of members by being located in the center of a cave or tent. This worship of fire seems to be a very natural phenomenon. This study examines the appearance and meaning of fire worship among the Siberian Evens. For the Evens, fire was a god protecting families and tribes. The hearth, located in the center of the Even’s tent, is the sacred center of the living space and the place where the spirit of fire resides. Fire worship is a widespread phenomenon among the Siberian peoples. They discussed various things with the fire, and after a successful hunt, he served fire. In order to wish for a good job, they prayed to the fire to receive them well the spirit of the local areas. Fire worship appears as a ritual of purification that is always practiced on the holidays of the Evens. Fire worship can be seen in everyday life. And all shaman rituals are also related to the spirit of fire. Because the spirit of fire protects man from evil spirits. This worship of fire is related to the purifying function of fire. Also, fire appears as a mediator between God and man. It plays the role of delivering human prayers and offerings to heaven and bringing God’s grace to humans. Its role as a mediator of fire gives fire the ability to prophesy in advance to humans. Because fire can convey what the taiga’s master spirit says. The power of purification, protection, and prophecy of fire made fire a god for the Evens.
