국문 초록

이 글은 러시아 성 게오르기(St. George) 문장(紋章)과 이콘(icon)의 상호관계를 고찰한 것이다. 고대 루시부터 성 게오르기 이미지는 종교적 이념과 지배층 권력의 구현체로 사용되었다. 이러한 기능은 모스크바 공국의 중앙집권시기에 절정에 다다른다. 로마노프 왕조에서는 성 게오르기와 함께 쌍두독수리 엠블렘이 국가 정체성과 이데올로기를 표방하는 대표적 기호로 자리매김했다. 본론 1장에서 러시아 성 게오르기 이콘과 문장의 기원과 변천 과정의 유사성을 살펴보았다. 2장에서는 성 게오르기 문장의 근대적 변모 과정에서 잔존하는 종교적 특성을 짚어보았다. 3장에서는 예술의 기법과 형식적 측면에서 러시아 이콘과 문장의 상관성을 보았다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the correlation between the Russian St. George heraldry and icon. The image of St. George and the Dragon (Snake) was a mytheme that included ancient Near East and European periodic implications and discourse. The myth of St. George formed the symbol of consolidating the ideology of the ruling class of the church and secular power through the image of the icon and heraldry. St. George, a Christian martyr, transformed into an incarnation of strength and courage in Russian heraldry and icon. The functionality of the St. George figure in Russia peaks during the centralization of the Principality of Moscow in the 15th-16th centuries. The St. George emblem, an embodiment of religious ideology and power, was useful to internally and externally enhance the status of the princes of Ancient Rus’. St. George heraldry was handed down as a symbol of the Moscow monarch, the emperor of the Russian empire. St. George icon and heraldry have a commonality not only in the opposing composition of good and evil, but also in the character’s movement, gaze, and direction. In the artistic aspect, St. George icon and heraldry have a halo, the frontality of the character and the right direction from the audience’s gaze. ‘Сleimo (Клеймо)’ was an art technique that clearly showed the relationship between icon and heraldry.
