국문 초록

본고는 소통 시 화자의 발화 과정을 메시지의 언표화 과정으로 보고, 메시지 내용, 메시지 전달 전략, 메시지 언표화 방식이라는 세 측면에 한국어와 러시아어의 차이점을 논의한다. 첫째, 한국어에는 ‘화자-지향적’인 관례화된 메시지 내용이 러시아어에 비해 상대적으로 그 종류와 양에 있어서 상당히 다양하고 많다는 점을 주장한다. 둘째, 화자의 화용적 메시지 전달 전략은 해당 언어의 문장으로의 메시지 표상화 원리 및 방식과 밀접하게 연계되어 있음을 지적하고, 한국어는 화자의 메시지 내용에 대한 청자의 미지(未知)성 여부가 중요한 언표화 전략의 잣대이며, 이러한 전략이 문장 형성 상의 원리를 결정한다고 보았다. 셋째, 한국어 통사는 화자에 의해 필요하다고 판단되는 메시지 내용만을 덧붙이는(교착하는) 방식으로 이루어지는 반면, 러시아어는 문법적으로 규정된 틀(프레임)에 의해 문장이 구조화되는 소위 “굴절(형식) 통사”를 보인다고 주장한다.

영문 초록

This paper discusses semantic and pramatic-syntactic differences in the sentence level between Korean and Russian. Under the assumption that a text (sentence) represents what the speaker intends to convey (= message) in the given discourse context, they are phrased in terms of message contents, strategy of message-conveying, and mode of linguistic representation of the message. In the main body of the article, it is pointed out that Korean commands a variety of categories and agglunatives that express the speaker’s attitude or judgments of the individuals and activities referred to in the sentences. With respect to the speaker’s pragmatic strategy of message-conveying, it is argued that Korean speakers are allowed by the grammar to express only those pieces of information that are believed to be unknown to, inferrable by, or to be unnecessary to, the hearer in the current discourse. In contrast, Russian should express information regarding thematic roles that are already known, therefore redundant in terms of information value, to the hearer. This pragmatic freedom vs. restriction between two languages is argued here to be responsible for the difference in mode of syntactic structuring, viz. agglutinative syntax (Korean) vs. frame syntax (Russian).
