국문 초록

이 논문은 수암 권상하의 학문관과 춘추정신을 논한 글이다. 주지하다시피 수암 권상하는 율곡-서계-우암으로 내려오는 기호유학의 ‘사문지적전(師門之嫡傳)’으로 불렸으며, 특히 송시열의 학문과 사업을 계승하여 후대에 전수하는 일에 매진하였다. 아울러 그는 인물성동이(人物性同異) 논쟁의 핵심에 있는 남당(南唐) 한원진(韓元震)과 외암(巍巖) 이간(李柬)의 스승이기도 하다. 한원진과 이간 등 그의 문인들에 의해 전개된 호락논변(湖洛論辨)이라는 토론 문화를 일으키는 계기를 주었다. 그는 이 논변에서 “사람의 성(性)이 물(物)의 성(性)과 다른 것은 기(氣)의 국한[氣之局] 때문이요, 사람의 이(理)가 곧 물의 이(理)인 것은 이(理)의 통함[理之通] 때문이다.”고 한, 이이의 이통기국(理通氣局)설을 들어 한원진의 상이론(相異論)에 동조하였다. 그는 이러한 인물성이론을 바탕으로 ‘존왕양이(尊王攘夷)’에 입각한 친명배청(親明排淸)의 의리(義理)를 실천하는데 일생을 바쳤던 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper is to examine Suam Kwon Sangha’s View on Learning and Spirit of Chunchu. As is generally known, Suam Kwon Sangha was called ‘succession of master’s study and scholastic mantle (師門之嫡傳)’ in the realm of Giho school carried on through Yulgok-Seogye-Uam and he particularly immersed himself in inheriting Uam Song Siyeol’s study and projects and passing them down to posterity. In addition, he also is a teacher of Namdang Han Wonjin (韓元震) and Oeam Lee Gan (李柬) who are at the core of debate on human and animal nature. He provided an opportunity to raise debate culture referred to as Horak debate developed by his literary circles with Han Wonjin and Lee Gan, etc. In Horak debate, he quoted Yulgok Lee Yi’s theory of Litongkikuk (理通氣局, meaning that logic passes through while energy is restricted) that read “The reason why human nature (性) is different from that of animal is because of limitation of energy (氣); the reason why human logic (理) is that of water is for passing of logic (理)” in pursuit of agreement with Han Wonjin’s theory of dissemblance. Based on this theory of human and animal nature, he devoted his entire life to practice duties of serving Ming and excluding Qing (親明排淸) grounded on the notion of ‘Sonno joi (尊王攘夷, Revere the Emperor, Expel the Barbarian).’
