A Study on the Relationship between RMB Devaluation and Trade Imbalance Under the Sino-U.S. Trade War

국문 초록

본 연구는 2018년에 트럼프 정부가 중국 정부에 500억 달러의 관세를 부과한다고 발표하면서 중· 미 무역 환경이 갈수록 긴장되고 있으며, 중국 정부가 대외개방을 계속 확대하고 RMB환율의 안정 적으로 유지하는 것 사이에서 균형을 맞추기가 갈수록 어려워지고 있다. 본 논문은 2005년 1분기부 터 2018년 4분기까지 데이터를 선별하여 실증분석 모델을 구축함으로써 RMB의 실제 환율과 중·미 환율 관계에 대한 무역 불균형을 실증 분석하였다. 우선은 중·미 간 무역전쟁의 시작과 배경과 과정 을 소개하였고, RMB 환율 변동을 초래하는 일부 요소들을 추출했으며, 이중에는 중･미 간 교역액 과 균형 잡힌 환율 모델에서 데이터를 추출해서 본문 연구모델을 선정하여 중･미 무역 마찰 충격의 큰 배경바탕으로 ADF검증, OLS회귀분석, Johansen공적분검증, Granger 인과관계 검증에 통해 중국 통화 RMB의 무역 흑자와 환율 사이에 평행 관계가 있을 뿐만 아니라 RMB평가 절하가 무역 불균형 의 주요원인이 아니라는 것을 발견하였다, 따라서 실증분석 결과에 의하여 중국 경제정책의 불확실 성이 RMB 환율에 어느정도 영향을 미쳤다는 결과를 내렸으며 마지막으로 본 논문은 중국 정부에 통화정책을 이행하기 위한 무역 불균형을 완화하는 방안과 중국내에 부자들이 해외투자를 배려하 고 다각화 전략을 수행하기 위해 중국 내 수출입에 효율적인 정책제안을 제시한다.

영문 초록

This paper is the Trump administration has announced tariffs of $50 billion on the Chinese government. The trade environment between China and the U. S. has become increasingly tense. In this paper, under the background of Sino-us trade friction impact, by selecting quarterly data from the first quarter of 2005 to the fourth quarter of 2018 to build an empirical analysis model, an empirical analysis was conducted on the trade imbalance between RMB real exchange rate and Sino-us exchange rate. Firstly, it introduces the beginning of the trade war between China and the U. S., and extracts some factors leading to the RMB exchange rate fluctuations from the background. Among its extracts data from the trade volume and equilibrium exchange rate model between China and the U. S., and selects the research model of this paper. Through ADF test, OLS analysis, Johansen co-integration test and Granger non-empirical relationship test on those factors and data, it is found that there is not only a balanced relationship between trade surplus and real exchange rate, also that RMB depreciation is not the main cause of trade imbalance. Finally, this paper concludes that the uncertainty of China s economic policies has a certain impact on the RMB exchange rate, and puts forward policy Suggestions to ease the trade imbalance for the economic regulation of the Chinese government.
