국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 연구자가 3년간 운영해 온 교양교과목 [미디어를 통한 장애인의 이해]를 토의식수업으로 진행하면서 대학생들의 장애인식개선에 미치는 효과에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. I 대학교 수강생 59명을 대상으로 수업 중에 진행한 토의 내용, 성찰 일지와 소그룹 인터뷰 내용을 질적 분석하였다. 수집된 자료를 분석할 때 연구자는 사례 간 의미 있는 내용을 중심으로 범주화하였다. 이에 따른 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생들은 미디어를 통한 토의식수업이 학습 동기와 집중력에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 토의로 이어지는 교수방법으로 타 과생들의 다양한 생각을 알 수 있는 기회가 되었으며, 장애이해를 쉽게 하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 학생들은 미디어를 통한 토의식수업에 참여함으로써 장애에 대한 지식과 정보를 폭넓게 알아가는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 장애인에 대한 잘못된 인식을 반성함과 동시에 장애의 편견에서 벗어나야 하며 장애인식에 대한 교육이 교양영역에서 진행되어야 함을 강조하였다. 따라서 대학교육에서 장애인식교육은 인간, 사회에 대한 폭넓은 이해를 바탕으로 올바른 가치관을 확립하고자하는 교육이라 할 수 있을 것이다. 이에 본 연구자는 대학생들의 학문공동체의 실질적인 토대가 되는 교양교과목으로 장애인식에 관련된 교과목이 자리매김할 것을 기대해 본다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of improving disability awareness among college students. To this end, researcher conducted discussion classes with the objective of better understanding people with disability through the cultural media. This study has been in operation for the last three years. A qualitative analysis was conducted on 59 university students concerning the contents of the discussions, the reflection logs, and the small group interviews taking place throughout the class. When analyzing the collected data, the researcher divided the findings into categories based on meaningful information between the cases. The results of the research are as follows: Firstly, students found that discussion classes through the media were effective in terms of their impact on motivation and concentration. Additionally, the methods utilized in these discussions provided an opportunity for students to learn of other students experiences, thus leading to an overall greater understanding of disability. Secondly, students were found to have acquired extensive knowledge and information about disabilities by participating in discussion classes through the media. It further emphasized that individuals held inaccurate, preconceived ideas of the disabled, and that education on disability awareness should be carried out in liberal arts education. Therefore, one might argue that education about the disabled at the university level has at its foundation the ability to establish correct values based on a broad understanding of people and the societies in which they live. It is the fervent hope of researcher that liberal arts subjects, which represent the very core of the academic community of college students, will in due course establish a subject related to disability awareness.
