국문 초록

본 연구는 중국의 네거티브 문화재와 그것을 활용한 다크 투어리즘의 개발을 개괄하고, 지린성 창춘의 네거티브 문화재와 다크 투어리즘의 현황을 통해 그 발전 방향에 대해 고찰한 것이다. 중국에서 네거티브 문화재의 가치를 인식하고 다크 투어리즘을 본격적으로 주목하기 시작한 것은 2000년대 중반 이후로 본다. 그 이전 시기에도 난징(南京)의 ‘일본군 난징대학살 조난동포 기념관’이나 리지샹[利濟巷] 위안소, 하얼빈[哈爾濱]의 일본군 731부대 등 다크 투어리즘으로 귀납할 수 있는 사례들이 있었지만 의식적으로 개발한 곳은 2008년의 탕산 대지진 유적지와 2009년의 쓰촨[四川] 원촨[汶川] 대지진 유적지라 할 것이다. 중국의 다크 투어리즘이 이처럼 자연재난 현장에서 출발한 것은 역사적 트라우마에 대한 부담이 여전히 존재하기 때문인 것으로 보인다. 이런 측면에서 도시 전체가 침략의 역사로 점철된 창춘은 이러한 중국의 역사적 트라우마를 벗어던지고 새로운 다크 투어리즘의 모델을 개발할 적지로 보인다. 창춘은 러시아와 일본 등 제국주의의 침략과 점령에 의해 개발되고 근대화된 도시이다. 그래서 도시 전체에 네거티브 문화재가 산재해 있고, 오히려 중국의 다른 도시에서 흔히 보이는 자랑스러운 역사관광 자원은 전무한 매우 독특한 도시이다. 거기에다 이러한 네거티브 문화재 대부분은 지금도 다양하게 사용되는 일상공간이다. 따라서 특별한 관광자원이 없는 창춘의 경우, 관광의 주 테마를 ‘다크’로 스토리텔링 하여 그 속에 창춘 사람들의 ‘밝은’ 일상을 함께 대조시키고, 고난을 극복하고 성장하는 평화적인 미래도시의 비전을 제시한다면 매우 독특하고 의미 있는 관광도시로 거듭날 수 있을 것으로 여겨진다.

영문 초록

It is postulated that the value of the negative heritage in China has been recognized and dark tourism has been receiving attention since mid-2000s. Even though, there already were existing dark tourism sites such as Japanese Military Nanjing Grand Slaughter Memorial, Lijixiang Wartime Brothel, Japanese Military Unit 731 in Harbin and so on, two of the sites developed under clear intention of dark tourism are 2008 Tangshan Earthquake Historic Site and 2009 Wenchuan, Sichuan Earthquake Historic Site. The reason China’s dark tourism has started with natural disaster zones seems to have to do with the heft of the historical trauma the country is reluctant to fully embrace. Thus, Changchun, the city with a sad history riddled with foreign invasions, can be a promising locus for the new dark tourism model and help China overcome the historical trauma. Changchun is a city that was established and developed by Russian and Japanese invasion forces. Negative heritage is ubiquitous, yet proud history tourism assets typically found in other Chinese regions are nonexistent in this particular city. In addition to that, most negative heritage of the city are public places for everyday life. It is, thus, estimated that, by storytelling the entire city under a singular theme of ‘Dark’ and depicting Changchun citizens’ everyday life in it, the city can be reborn as a unique and meaningful tourism city.
