국문 초록

현재 국내의 각 대학에서 진행 중인 비판적 사고 교육은 교육 수혜자의 상황에 맞게 체계적으로 세분화되지 못함으로써 비판적 사고 교육의 질을 향상시키지 못하는 한계를 노정하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 이러한 한계를 극복하여 비판적 사고 교육을 내실화할 수 있는 한 가지 대안으로 ‘시각적 문해력’ 교육을 제시하고자 한다. 이러한 교육모델은 예술을 전공하는 학부 학생들에게 좀 더 적합한 비판적 사고 교육이라 볼 수 있다. 예술을 전공하는 학생들이 비판적 사고 교육을 받는다는 것은 자신의 생각을 대중에게 효과적으로 전달시켜 의사소통 능력을 높이고 합당한 근거를 통해 자신의 예술 세계에 대한 주장을 뒷받침하는데 기여할 수 있기 때문이다. 이러한 비판적 사고 교육은 기존의 ‘논리학’과 같이 특정 내용을 중심으로 하는 교과 중심의 분과 영역이라기보다는, 개별 교과와 관련된 연구와 학습을 보다 효과적이고 창의적으로 수행할 수 있게 하는 지적 도구를 제공하는 데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to establish and defend a position for arts education as a cognitive academic subject which, with the application of philosophical inquiries to its curriculum, is capable of contributing to training artistic individuals to solve various problems associated with social changes in light of the extended role arts play in society. This study ultimately seeks to apply pedagogy of ‘philosophical inquiries unit’ to arts curriculum, in terms of practical application of an educational model, to enhance thinking ability of learners. A significant point of this study shall be that it demonstrates how thought-provoking arts education can help the artistic and non-artistic learners alike gain self-observation, thinking and judgment skills which will guide them to social awareness. And, this study will aid teachers and students in solving complex social problems and develop critical thinking skills. Moreover, the educational undertone of this study is to provide a foundation for arts education as a cognitive activity and therefore suggest that arts curriculum with thinking skills as its basic topic is an effective tool for promoting thinking ability in students. It is anticipated that this study will contribute to future researches working toward developing a new concept of creativity－a concept which allows the field of arts education break from its established practice of encouraging spontaneous release of ideas, and embraces critical thinking skills capable of solving problems. Finally, this study hopes to play a role in legitimizing arts education, which has been treated as a non-cognitive academic field and has received little public interest, as a main academic field for building a pool of talented human resources in terms of national strategic purposes.
