국문 초록

현재 전문대학은 급속한 환경변화 가운데 있다. 지금까지 전문대학은 주로 숙련된 기술자를 양성해 왔으나 앞으로는 새로운 기술을 창출해 낼 수 있는 창의적 인재를 양성해야 한다. 정보화시대가 요구하는 역량인 창의성, 지적 응용력, 비판적 사고, 의사소통능력 등은 교양교육과 밀접한 관계가 있다. 그러나 전문대학은 전공 교육에 지나치게 치우쳐 있고, 교양교육에 대한 관심은 크지 않은 실정이다. 따라서 현재의 교육체제로는 학습자가 중심이 되는 새로운 교육 패러다임에 적응하기 어렵고 시대적 요청에 부합되는 인재 양성도 요원한 일이다. 전문대학의 교양교육 현황을 보면 교양과나 교양학부 등 교양전담기구가 설치된 대학이 거의 없는 것으로 드러났다. 4년제 대학처럼 교양을 영역별로 세분화하여 체계적으로 운영하는 경우도 거의 없는 형편이다. 설문조사 결과 전문대학의 교수들은 교양교육이 매우 필요하다고 생각하고 있고, 교양교육의 목적이 확립되기를 기대하고 있다. 이 같은 교양교육 개선에 대한 기대감이 내실 있는 교양교육으로 이어지기 위해서는 다음과 같은 개선점이 필요하다. 1)교양교육의 분명한 목표 확립, 2)교양전담기구의 설치 3) 교양 전임교원의 충원 등이 이뤄져야 한다. 이러한 개선점이 보완된다면 직업분야에서 기대하는 전문직업인 양성에 큰 효과가 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to suggest the way of enhancing the general education of Junior college. Those who want to become the leaders of information-oriented age need to have some competencies such as creativity, practical ability, critical thinking, and communication skill. These competencies correlate with general education. However while Junior college focuses on educating a major filed of study, the interest in educating general education is very low. When investigating the present condition of the general education of Junior college, it is revealed that only 10% among Junior colleges has a department of general education and almost none of them has a systematical curriculum of general education like 4 years college. Even though the faculty members of Junior college think general education for Junior college students is more needed and important, in reality, it is still insufficient and poor. In this situation, belows are some improvement points to strengthen general education: 1) setting the objectives of general education for Junior college, 2) supporting to establish the department of general education 3) recruiting full time professors for general education. If these defects can be compensated, the general education of Junior college would be very strengthened and be possibly quite helpful to produce professional persons whose level meet the expectations of today’s industries.
