영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine acceptability of Islamic Culture-Specific Items in interpreting focusing on perceived social and cultural distance between Korea and the Islamic world. In this study, a survey was conducted on 242 adults to examine their subjective social distance of Islamic culture through the questions about their perceived cultural distance, image of Islam and understanding of Islam. Next, it examined the preferred interpreting strategies of seven Islamic Culture-Specific Items that are often used in Arabic discourses or speeches. It showed that respondents want the interpreter to interpret the Islamic Culture-Specific Items literally into Korean for faithfulness of interpretation, right to know, understanding and communication with other cultures, even though they perceive social and cultural distance between Korea and the Islamic world is so far.
