영문 초록

In order to compare ST and TT of the Arabic translation of Please Look After Mom, this study through text case analysis. The study collected 81 cases and classified it into three criteria: mistranslation, translator’s intervention and lack of understanding of Korean culture and sentiment. All cases were reviewed based on sentences or paragraphs. In the mistranslation, ‘Hong-uh’ which is a skate fish in English, but the Arabic translator mistook the word for a skate shoes . The most negative result of the intervention is that Chapter 4 “Another Woman” which is considered a very important part of the novel has been omitted. In case of lack of understanding of Korean culture and sentiment, the translator mistranslated “Kimchi” as “Kimchi soup” and “Pig pen” as “Sheep pen”. For Koreans, “ramen” means more than just noodles, but it does not reflect this. The problem of equivalence arising from literary translation is not simple. But this article supports the value of literary translation by shedding light on the issue.
