조선 후기 고지도에 묘사된 북한강 유로

국문 초록

史料와 고지도에 수록된 하천의 유로와 지명은 대하천과 주요 제사처에 한정되던 것에서 조선 후기 고지도와 지리지의 발달에 따라 중·소하천의 지명과 세부 유로의 묘사가 나타나게 된다. 조선 후기 고지도의 하천 지명과 유로 묘사의 변화를 알아보기 위해 고지도를 유형별로 나눈 후 대표 지도를 선정해 분석하였다. 그 결과, 『해동지도』에서 『조선지도』로 전환되면서 지명과 유로의 묘사가 증가되었지만, 기존 지명의 누락도 다수 일어났다. 『조선지도』와 『청구도』는 지명과 하천 유로 묘사의 유사성이 나타났다. 『청구도』에서 『동여도』로 전환되는 과정에서는 하천 지명이 2배 가까이 증가하였으며, 지류의 묘사도 늘어났다. 특히 『동여도』에만 기재된 지명의 상당수는 기존 지리지에 기록된 것으로 『동여도』는 기존 고지도와 지리지의 결합을 통해 하천 체계를 상세화한 지도로 볼 수 있다. 『대동여지도』의 경우 목판본이라는 특징으로 『동여도』에 비해 지명의 누락이 다수 일어났지만, 유로의 묘사에서는 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다.

영문 초록

The water courses of the rivers and place names recorded in old maps and historic materials were mainly about large rivers and major sites for ancestral rites. With the development of old maps and geography books in late Joseon period, the names of small and medium rivers and detailed water courses could be described on the maps. The old maps were classified by type and representative maps were selected for analysis to identify the change in the names of rivers and description on water courses in the old maps in late Joseon period. In accordance with the analysis, the names of places and description on water courses were increased in 『Joseon-Jido』 as compared to 『Haedong-Jido』, but a number of place names was also omitted. 『Joseon-Jido』 and 『Cheonggudo』 showed the similarity in place names and description on water courses of rivers. In the process of change from 『Cheonggudo』 to 『Dongyeodo』, the number of river names was increased nearly twice and the description on river branches was also increased. In particular, a number of place names marked only on 『Dongyeodo』 was found in the existing geography books. It is considered that 『Dongyeodo』 described the river system in details by combining existing old maps and geography books. 『Daedongyeojido』 characterized as the wood-block printing omitted a number of place names as compared to 『Dongyeodo』, but showed no significant difference in describing water courses.
