제주해녀문화 관광자원화의 진정성과 지속가능성 - ‘해녀의 부엌’을 사례로

국문 초록

본 연구는 최근 활발히 시도되고 있는 제주해녀문화의 관광자원화를 ‘진정성’의 관점에서 비판적으로 고 찰한 것이다. 제주해녀문화의 관광자원화가 지속가능성을 확보하기 위해서는 제주를 방문하는 관광 주체에게 제주해녀에 대한 경험과 감동을 강렬하게 이끌어낼 수 있는 진정성을 형성할 필요가 있다. 특히 관광 주체로 하여 금 매력적이고 강렬한 실존적 진정성의 공감을 이끌어내기 위해서는 객관적 진정성과 구성적 진정성의 전략적 인 형성이 중요하다. 이를 위해서는 일차적으로 관광생산자 관점에서 경쟁력 있고 매력적인 진정성 형성이 전제 되어야 한다. 필자들은 본 연구의 목적에 부합하는 대표적인 사례로 제주도에서 극장식 레스토랑으로 운영 중인 ‘해녀의 부엌’에 주목하였다. ‘해녀의 부엌’은 해녀 집안 출신의 청년 예술가와 지역사회의 긴밀한 협력을 통해 제 주해녀문화를 관광자원화한 기존의 사례보다 매력적이고 희소성 있는 진정성을 형성하였다. 관광 주체는 ‘해녀 의 부엌’을 방문함으로써 제주해녀 이야기와 그들의 문화를 더욱 강렬하게 공감할 수 있었다. 그러나 ‘해녀의 부 엌’ 사례는 전략적으로 형성한 진정성 경험의 과정이 제주해녀의 지속가능성 측면에서 한계점도 노출하고 있음 을 확인하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to critically examine the tourism of Jeju Haenyeo culture from the perspective of ‘authenticity’. In order to ensure the sustainability of tourism resources of Jeju Haenyeo culture, it is necessary to form an authenticity that can bring out the experience and impression of Jeju Haenyeo strongly to tourists visiting Jeju. In particular, it is important to strategically form objective authenticity and constructive authenticity in order to draw attractive and intense existential authenticity to tourists. To this end, it is necessary to form a competitive and attractive authenticity from the perspective of tourism producers. As a representative example that fits the purpose of this study, the authors focused on the ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’, which is operated as a theater-style restaurant in Jeju. Through close cooperation between a young artist from the Haenyeo family and the local community, the ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’ formed a more attractive and rare authenticity than the existing case of turning Jeju Haenyeo culture into tourism resources. Tourists who visited the ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’ were able to more strongly sympathize with the life of Jeju Haenyeo (Women Divers) and their culture. However, in the case of ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’, it was confirmed that there are limitations in terms of sustainability of Jeju Haenyeo (Women Divers) in the process of experiencing the strategically formed authenticity
