국문 초록

1960년대 도시산업선교회는 산업화 과정에서 발생한 노동문제, 도시 빈민문제를 해결하면서 노동자의 인권 확보를 위해 노력한 개신교의 선교단체였다. 이들의 활동은 대부분 1970년대 동일방직 사건과 같은 민주노조운동과 관련된 것으로 인식하기 쉽다. 그러나 실제 1960년대 산업전도 시기부터 도시산업선교회는 다양한 활동을 전개하였다. 특히 인천 도시산업선교회는 다양한 지역에서 활동했던 도시산업선교 가운데 가장 활발한 활동을 전개하였다는 점에서 주목할 만하다. 인천산선이 주도했던 1970년대의 도시산업선교는 이전에 선행되었던 1960년대 산업선교 활동에 기반한 것이었다. 특히 1960년대 인천산선의 활동을 주도했던 인물은 감리교 선교사였던 조지 E. 오글 목사였다. 조지 오글은 1961년부터 1971년까지 인천산선에서 산업선교활동을 전개하였다. 조지 오글은 교회가 힘없고 가난한 사람의 편에 서야 할 것을 주장하며, 이러한 관점을 노동자에게 적용하였다. 또한 평신도운동을 강조하는 등 당시 주류교회와는 다른 입장을 보인다. 조지 오글의 이러한 사상적 배경에 기초하여 1960년대 인천산선은 노동하는 목회자 프로그램을 만들어서 목회자들을 공장에 보내어 노동자들과 함께 일하게 하면서 그들의 이야기를 들어주고, 선교활동을 전개하였다. 또한 노동자들을 훈련시켜 평신도 지도자로 육성하였고, 다양한 교육활동을 전개하였다. 당시 공장에 몰려드는 많은 사람들을 전도하겠다는 개인구원 차원의 전도열기에서 벗어나 노동자들의 현실을 파악하고, 그들을 위한 프로그램을 구성하는 인천산선의 활동과 조지 오글의 인식은 한국인 실무자들에게 계승되었다. 인천산선은 1960년대 이미 노동자를 위한 노동조합 및 노동법 교육, 직장여성부 창설 등의 활동을 전개하였다. 이들은 이러한 활동을 통해 다른 선교회와는 다르게 노동자들과 빠르고 친밀하게 접촉할 수 있었으며, 이는 1970년대 인천산선의 활동의 중요한 기반이 되었다.

영문 초록

In the 1960s, the Urban Industrial Mission was a mission group of Protestantism for labors rights by resolving problems in labor problems and urban poverty that occurred during the industrialization. It might be known as the democratic union movement, such as the case of Dongil Textile Factory Incident in the 1970s. In fact, however, From the period of Industrial warfare in 1960s, the Urban Industrial Mission carried out various activities. In particular, Outstanding was that Inchon Urban Industrial Mission had accomplished most of activities among urban industrial mission programs done in various regions. The Urban Industrial Mission programs in the 1970s, which was led by the Inchon Urban Industrial Mission, was based on formal industrial mission programs in the 1960s. Rev. George E. Ogle, a Methodist missionary in Korea, led the activities of the Urban Industrial Mission programs in the 1960s. George Ogle began mission work in the Inchon Urban Industrial Mission from 1961 to 1971. He insisted that the church should be on the side of those labors who were poor and powerless. He also had a different opinion from the major churches who emphasized on the missions for laypeople. In the 1960s, Based on this ideological background of George Ogle, the Inchon Urban Industrial Mission created a pastoral program for labor and sent pastors to factories to mission for labors by working with them and listening to their stories. They had done diverse educational programs such as training workers to be leaders for ministry. At that time, rather than the meaning of personal salvation, the programs for labors was made based on the perception of Inchon Urban Industrial Mission and George Ogle, who grasped the reality of the workers, were inherited to the Korean practitioners. In the 1960s, Inchon Urban Industrial Mission had developed labor union, education programs for labor law and established the Ministry of working women. Through these activities, they were able to quickly and intimately make the connection with labors unlike other mission groups, which became an important foundation for the activities of Inchon Urban Industrial Mission in the 1970s.
