한국 근대지형도의 소장 현황과 특징

국문 초록

한국의 지도 제작사 측면에서, 국내에서 근대적 측량 방법을 이용하여 한반도 지도를 제작한 시기는 19세기 말부터이다. 19세기 말부터 시작하여 1945년 광복 전까지 한국의 전국단위로의 지형도는 일본에 의해 크게 3차례 제작되었다. 이는 측도(測圖)된 시기별에 따라 제1차지형도, 제2차지형도, 제3차지형도로 구분되며, 본 논문에서는 이를 통칭하여 ‘한국 근대지형도’라고 부르고자 한다. 한국 근대지형도는 한국은 물론 해외에도 많은 양이 소장되어있다. 그러나 현재까지 한국 근대지형도의 전체적 현황과 목록이 파악되지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 한국과 해외 기관에 소장된 한국 근대지형도의 목록을 파악하였다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 GIS 방법을 이용하여 지형도의 내용과 형식을 분석하고, 한국 근대지형도를 활용하여 19세기 말에서 20세기 초 한반도의 원지형(原地形)을 복원, 전국단위 또는 지역단위의 변화된 지역 모습을 연구하는데 목적을 둔다. 향후 한국 근대지형도의 디지털 아카이브로 발전하기 위한 토대를 마련하고자 한다.

영문 초록

For the history of making maps in Korea, it was since the end of the 19th century that Korean peninsula map was made using the modern survey method by Korean. From the end of the 19th century until the liberation in 1945, the topography of the Korean peninsula were made three times at large and they are divided into the First, Second, and Third topography maps according to the measured time periods. We refer to them, in this study, as modern topography maps of Korea in common. The modern topography maps of Korea are found abundantly in abroad as well as Korea. However, the current status and list of modern topography maps have not yet been investigated. In this study, the list of topographic maps of Korea collected by Korean and foreign institutions was created. The purpose of this study was, accordingly, to analyze the contents and form of topographic map based on the list, and to study the changed coastline and land use of the Korean Peninsula from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century by utilizing the modern topography map of Korea. This study provides the basis for developing digital archives of modern topography maps in the future. In addition, the maps of capital city by Kim Jeongho is characterized as depicting Sangrimwon garden and Hamchunwon garden, where is a crown forests to harvest fruits and to use fengshui, in a nearby palaces.
