고려시대 국왕 관련 의례 연구의 성과와 제언

국문 초록

고려시대 국왕 관련 의례 연구는 유교 정치사상의 도입과 발전과정에 대한 탐구와 고려의 불교사상과 의례를 분석하는 것에서부터 출발했다. 고려시대 설행되었던 여러 의례 가운데 큰 비중을 차지하고 있는 것은 불교의례였다. 이 때문에 일찍부터 의례의 분류 기준이나 개념과 의미에 대한 연구가 적지 않았다. 반면, 유교 정치사상 연구에서는 고려에서 조선으로 발전하는 과정을 연구 중심에 두고 있었기 때문에 개별의례보다 정치사상 변화에 초점이 두어졌다. 이러한 연구를 토대로 점차 국왕 관련 의례에 관한 구체적인 분석과 종합적인 규명이 이루어졌다. 이 연구들은 우선 국왕의 국정 운영과 통치행위에 관한 의례로서 순행, 연향, 군례, 외교 의례로 구분할 수 있으며, 다음으로 국왕 권위의 정당성을 드러내는 즉위의례와 상·제례, 조상숭배, 왕실로 연결되는 주요 의례 공간에 대한 연구로 나눌 수 있다. 최근까지 의례 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있고, 성과가 꾸준히 축적되고 있는 것은 고무적이다. 앞으로 의례 연구의 진전을 기대하며 세 가지 의견을 제시한다. 첫째, 연구 소재의 확장과 심도 있는 분석이 필요하다. 의례 공간에 대한 연구, 의례 참여자와 물품에 대한 연구 등 아직까지 거론되지 못한 연구 소재들이 산재해있다. 둘째, 의례의 규정성에 대한 재검토가 필요하다. 규정된 의례의 내용과 실제 행례를 도식적으로 이해하는 것이 아니라 의례 시행 과정과 사례를 검토하고, 다양한 관점으로 파악할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 의례를 매개로 다양한 정치 사회적 갈래와 의미를 파악하고, 의례와 국가·사회의 관계를 다각도로 이해하도록 해야 한다.

영문 초록

The beginning of ritual study of Goryeo Dynasty was about the process of researching the introduction and development of Confucian political ideas or the analysis on Buddhism and its rituals. Because Buddhist rituals were a large part in Goryeo, there have been many studies on the classification standards and the meanings and concepts of the rituals. On the other hand, regarding the Confucian political ideas, the development process towards Choseon Dynasty is the perspective of research, so they focus on the change of ideology rather than studies on individual rituals. Around 2000, the accomplishments of ritual studies dramatically increased, and the subjects became diverse and intensified. Especially, rituals related to kings can be explained in two directions. The first is the ones implemented with the purpose of government operation and ruling act, and the other is the political and symbolic rituals that revealed the justification of king s authority. Based on these accomplishments, a few research directions can be suggested for progress of future ritual research. First, there should be expansion of research subjects. In addition to in-depth analysis on the records of rituals in the Goryeo history records, studies on ritual space, participants and ritual items are also needed. Second, there should be reconsideration on regulation of rituals. Instead of understanding the contents of regulated rituals and actual practices schematically, reviewing ritual process and cases should be done in the various perspectives. Third, it is necessary to comprehend various political, social sections and their meanings with the media of rituals, and to understand rituals and society structurally.
