국문 초록

환경(혹은 경관에) 대한 인위적 개변이 미흡했던 선사시대 생계자원의 생산은 기후의 지배적인 영향을 받지 않을 수 없었다. 다른 한편으로, 생계자원의 생산은 선사시대 경제체제의 핵심일 뿐만 아니라, 나아가 사회ㆍ정치ㆍ문화적 변화의 이해에서도 빼놓을 수 없는 측면이기도 하다. 따라서‘생계(자원 생산)전략’의 시공에 걸친 변이를 매개로 기후변동과 선사시대 사회문화적 변화의 관계를 복원하는 작업은 그 중요성을 재삼 강조할 필요조차 없어 보인다. 이런 점은 기존의 연구에서도 충분히 인식되어온 바이지만, 널리 수용될 만한 성과를 내지 못하고 있는 것도 사실이다. 이러한 한계는 근본적으로 우리에게 신뢰할 만하고 해상도 높은 (古)기후궤적 복원자료가 축적되지 못했기 때문이다. 이런 점을 감안할 때, 최근 인간의 개입이 없었던 지층에서 채취된 화분과 석순 분석에 의거하여 제시된 (古)기후궤적 정보는 상대적으로 높은 신뢰도와 해상도를 갖는 것으로 평가를 받고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 선사시대 기후변동과 사회문화적 변화의 관계 복원에 새로운 기회를 열어줄 것으로 판단된다. 본고는 그러한 (古)기후궤적 복원결과를 적극적으로 수용하여 선사시대 편년체계와 비교하면서 한반도 선사시대 생계전략 변화와 기후변동 간 관계의 일면을 탐색해본다. 농경이 식료획 득의 주요 수단으로 등장하는 신석기시대 중기 이래로 여러 차례 확인되는 冷/溫의 반복 또는 한랭기 중 상당수가 사회문화적 전환기들과 병행하기도 한다. 특히, 청동기시대는 더욱 그러하다. 그러한 병행여부가 시간성에 관련된다면, 곡물자료의 분포는 기후와생계전략의 공간적 변이를 보여주는 자료이다. 농경의 발생이후 중요한 생계자원이 된 곡물 잔적의 분포는 기후대를 보여주는 대용자료일뿐만 아니라, 기후와 경작행위의 관계를 직접적으로 보여줄 수 있다. 현재의 자료로만 보건대, 청동기시대의 기후는 보리, 들깨, 밀 등 몇몇작물재배적지 혹은 북방한계선이 현재의 휴전선을 크게 넘지 않는 정도를 반영한다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

In the prehistoric times during which humanly-initiated transformation of environment or landscapes was insignificant, production of subsistence resource was overwhelmingly impacted by climatic factors. On the other hand, the production was at the heart of prehistoric economy, and furthermore, an aspect to be critically reckoned in understanding prehistoric social, political and cultural changes. Thus, it should be important to reconstruct the relationship between prehistoric sociocultural transformation and palaeoclimatic changes in the mediation of shift in the ‘subsistence strategy’. While the importance has been recognized in previous studies, it should be pointed out that there has not been any commonly-accepted suggestion. It may be attributed to scarcity of reliable palaeoclimatic reconstruction. However, several recent climatological studies based on analyzing pollen from nonhumaninvolved sediments and stalagmite represent higher reliability and resolution, and provide archaeologists with plausible resources in reconstructing relationship between climatic change and Korean prehistoric sociocultural transformation. Adopting the climatological reconstruction, I explore how influential climatic factors were on shifts in subsistence strategy. Since Middle Neolithic during which cultivated plants became one of the major subsistence resources, multiple cooling/warming events could be identified and some of them, especially cooling periods paralleled with sociocultural and subsistence transitions in the prehistory. Specially, the coincidences were more apparently identifiable in the Bronze Age. If the parallels are about temporality, distributional patterns of prehistoric grains data are likely to represent spatial variation of climatic factors subsistence strategies. Distributional patterns of the remains of grain that became major food resource since the adoption of cultivation could have represented climatic zones, and patterns of cultivating activities. According to current data, Bronze Age climate represent one in which the northern limit line of some grain, such as barley, perilla and millet was below current DMZ.
