국문 초록

알제리는아프리카대륙에서프랑스의영향력이가장강력한방식으로작동 한곳으로, 식민지배초기부터많은제도적실험과학문적모험이이루어졌다. 미술 학교, 예술가 협회, 박물관 등 다양한제도와 기관들을통해 문화와 예술의 발전이 장려되었다. 지극히 정치적인 의도에서 탄생한 국립 알제 미술관(Musée national des Beaux-Arts d’Alger)은식민주의적이데올로기안정화의 중심 역할 뿐만 아니라 알제리의 특수한 문화적 정체성의 바로미터로서 임무를충실하게수행하였다. 알제리정복백주년을기념하고식민지배를정당화하기 위해 문명과 예술의 기치를 들고 나선 제3공화국 정부는 국제적인 위상의 알제미술관의탄생에심혈을기울였다. 1930년개관이후, 본국의대대적인정치적, 경제적지원하에야심찬컬렉션이조성되었다. 알제리현지에서또하나의 프랑스를 시각적으로 구현하려는 의지에 따라, 예술 작품의 선택은 미학적기준 뿐만 아니라 이데올로기적 가치에 의해 이루어졌다. 중앙과 주변부 사이에서, 알제 순수 미술관과 그 컬렉션은 예술과 문화와 관련된 모든 것을 유기적으로연결함으로써프랑스령알제리와독립이후알제리의정체성을형성하는 데 기여하였다. 본 논문은 국립 알제 미술관이 전략적 컬렉션 조성을 통해 국가적, 지역적 차원에서 식민지/탈식민지 정체성 구축에 적극적으로 참여했다는 것을 보여주고자 한다.

영문 초록

As the most powerful center of French influence in Africa, Algeria will be the keystone of the African empire. From the very beginning of colonization, Algeria is a land of experimentation and adventure, and the institution has encouraged the development of the arts. The National Museum of Fine Arts of Algiers was born of the will of the politicians. It exercises a fundamental role as a stabilizer of the colonial ideology and barometer of the particular cultural identity of Algeria. Once the museum is inaugurated, an ambitious enrichment program is being implemented. Its collections are constituted with the objective to represent a panorama of the French art and not only that of Orientalism. By the will to make France in Algeria, the choices of the art works are made for reasons not only aesthetic, but also ideological. Between the metropolis and the ‘peripheral’ space, the National Museum of Fine Arts of Algiers and its collections help to shape the identity of colonial and post-colonial Algeria. This article will demonstrate that the National Museum of Fine Arts of Algiers participates in the colonial construction on a national and local scale by the strategic constitution of its collections.
