국문 초록

본 논문은 祠宇에 대한 사례연구의 일환으로 경주지역의 대표적인 문중사우였던 世德祠의 설립과정과 운영 양상을 살펴보았다. 세덕사에는 『考往錄』, 『別庫小冊』, 『德淵所小冊』, 『各樣謄錄』, 『世德祠田畓案』 등 필사원본류와 完文·明文·立案 등의 고문서 등 사우로서는 드물게 사우의 설립과정과 그 운영에 관한 일차자료를 다수 소장하고 있어 사례연구로 적합한 조건을 갖추고 있다. 세덕사는 조선시대 경주지역을 대표했던 驪州李氏 가문에 의해 운영된 문중사우로 1779년 慶州府 杞溪面에 설립되어 1868년 毁撤될때까지 약 90년 간 존속하였다. 18세기 이후 유교적 종법질서의 정착과 문중의식이 강화되면서, 각 문중의 이해를 대변하는 서원·사우의 필요성이 커지면서 문중서원·사우의 건립이 크게 확산되어 갔다. 이러한 현상은 문중별뿐만 아니라 시간이 지날수록 각자의 이해관계에 따라 가문별 또는 파별로 확산되어 나갔다. 이러한 서원·사우의 건립의 추세속에 경주의 여주이씨 경우도 파별로 분립이 뚜렷해졌다. 여주이씨는 賜額書院인 玉山書院에 李彦迪을 배향하고 있었으나, 18세기부터 이언적의 父·弟와 庶子·손자를 배향하는 雲泉書院(李彦适)·世德祠(李蕃·李彦适)·章山書院(庶子, 李全仁)·景山祠(孫, 李宜潤)를 설립하였고, 守拙堂派는 派祖인 李宜潛의 影幀을 모시는 杜谷影堂을 설립하여 각 파별로 운영하고 있었다. 도내 유림의 공론으로 설립되었던 옥산서원을 제외하고는 모두 여주이씨 각 파가 설립과 운영을 주도하였던 것이다. 세덕사는 여주이씨 양좌동의 입향조인 李蕃과 그의 2자인 李彦适 부자를 배향한다는 데서, 여주이씨 문중에 의해 건립되고 또 여주이씨 문중에 의해 전적으로 운영되었다. 이는 세덕사의 운영을 실질적으로 관장하는 山長과 有司가 모두 문중 인물로 임명되고 있다는 데서 알 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 세덕사의 설립과정과 운영 및 경제적 기반을 검토하여, 이 시기 문중 사우의 특징적인 면모를 파악해 보고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study looked into the establishment process and the operation state of Sedeoksa, the representative Munjungsau(門中祠宇) Gyeongju as a part of case study on Sau. Sedeoksa has a lot of primary data about the establishment process and its operation of transcribed original such as 『Gowanglok(考往錄)』『Byeolgosochaek(別庫小?)』『Deokyeonsosochaek(德淵所小?)』『Gakyangdeunglok(各樣謄錄)』『Sedeoksajeondaban(世德祠田畓案)』and historical manuscripts such as Wanmun(完文) · Myungmun(明文) · Leepan(立案) unlike common Sau, so it is very suitable as a case study. As Munjungsau run by Yeoju(驪州) Lee’s Family who represented Gyeongju in Joseon(朝鮮) Dynasty, Sedeoksa was built in Gigyemeon(杞溪面) in Gyeongjubu(慶州府) in 1779 and existed for about 90 years until its dispose in 1868. As Confucian clan rules were established and the consciousness of families were strengthened after the 18 century, the need of Seowon(書院) · Sau representing the understanding of each family was growing so that Munjungsau · Sau was largely built. Such a phenomenon was expanded by families and cliques according to interest of each family with time. With a trend of the establishment of Seowon · Sau, Yeoju Lee’s Family in Gyeongju was distinctly divided into clipues. Yeoju Lee’s Family enshrined Lee Eun-Jeok(李彦迪) in Oksanseowon(玉山書院) which is Saekseowon(賜額書院), but Uncheonseowon(雲泉書院, Lee Eon-Gwal:李彦适) · Sedeoksa(Lee Bun·Lee Eon Gwal: 李蕃 · 李彦适) · Jangsanseowon(章山書院: child of a concubine, Lee Jeon-In:李全仁) · Gyongsansa(景山祠, grandson, Lee Yui-Yoon: 李宜潤) enshrining Lee Eun-Jeok’s father and his child of a concubine and a grand child. In addition, Sujoldangpa(守拙堂派) established Dugokyongdan(杜谷影堂) enshrining its Pajo(派祖), deceased Lee Yui-Jam(李宜潛)’s picture and it was run by each clique. Except for Oksanseowon built by public opinion of the Confucian scholars within a province, each clique of Yeoju Lee’s Family led the establishment and its operation. As Sedeoksa enshrined Lee Bun who was Iphyangjo(入鄕祖) of Yeoju Lee’s Family Yangjawdong(良佐洞) and his son Lee Eon-Gwal, it was built by Yeoju Lee’s Family and also totally operated by Yeoju Lee’s Family. This shows that Sanjang(山長) and Yusa(有司) in charge of the operation of Sedeoksa were appointed among family figures. This study was conducted to analyze local activities such as aspects of local domination of Jaejisajok(在地士族) based on Sedeoksa and the exchange range between Jaejisajok in order to look into characteristics of Munjungsau of that period.
