안아주는 환경으로서의 예배공간 이해 ― 종교심리학적 관점에서

국문 초록

이 글의 목적은 기독교의 예배공간을 도널드 위니캇의 “안아주는 환경”의 개념을 기초로 하여 종교심리학적 관점에서 이해해 보는 것에 있다. 예배공간이란 신앙공동체가 삼위일체 하나님을 예배하기 위하여 활용하는 교회건축물의 공간을 가리킨다. 안아주는 환경은 유아를 돌보기 위한 핵심적인 돌봄의 자원으로서 유아의 정상적인 심리 발달을 위해 결정적인 역할을 하는 환경적 요인이다. 예배공간은 하나님의 세계와 인간의 세계를 이어주는 일종의 중간현상으로서의 기능을 하며, 안아주는 환경의 역할을 감당한다. 엄마는 안아주기를 통하여 아기에게 사랑을 표현하는 것처럼, 하나님은 예배를 통하여 하나님의 자녀들에게 사랑을 표현해 주신다. 예배공간 안에서 하나님과 인간 사이에 사랑의 관계성이 형성되면, 하나님은 인간의 변화의 근원으로서 그리고 충분히 좋은 존재로서 역할을 감당하신다. 안아주는 환경으로서의 예배공간(예, 바실리카 양식의 예배공간)은 창조적 놀이의 공간, 거룩한 상징의 공간, 치유의 상상력의 공간, 그리고 섬김과 돌봄의 공간이 될 수 있다. 대상관계이론은 인간과 신적 존재와의 관계성을 고찰함을 통하여 기독교 예배영성의 깊은 차원을 이해하는 데 도움을 준다. 위니캇의 ‘안아주는 환경’의 개념은 심리학과 신학 사이의 상호 비평적이고 보완적인 대화를 촉진하는 역할을 한다. 특히, 그의 ‘안아주는 환경’의 개념은 “엄마-아이의 관계”의 심리적 차원과 “신적 존재-인간의 관계”의 종교적 차원의 상호 연관성을 고찰하는 데 도움을 준다. 목회상담과 기독교 예배영성의 중요한 공동임무는 ‘하나님, 자기, 그리고 공동체’의 상호 내주하는 관계적 공간의 중요성을 깨닫고, “놀이할 수 있는 능력”을 회복하는 것에 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to understand the worship space of Christianity by using Donald W. Winnicott’s concept of the holding environment from a perspective of psychology of religion. Worship space refers to a building space of church architecture in which a community of faith worships the Trinity, who consists of three persons-the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. As a core resource of caring for a baby, the holding environment is an important environmental element for facilitating the normal mental development of the baby. Worship space is a kind of a transitional phenomenon which ties the world of the believer with the world of God; it functions as the role of the holding environment. As a mother is able to express her love to the baby through the holding, God is able to express God’s love to the believers through worship. While establishing loving relationships between God and the believer within the worship space, God behaves as both the role of a transitional Being and the role of a good-enough Being. The worship space as a holding environment(e.g., the worship space of Basilica style) can become the space of creative play, the space of holy symbol, the space of healing imagination, and the space of service and caring. Object relations theory helps us to understand the deep dimension of Christian spirituality of worship by exploring God-human relationships. Winnicott’s concept of the holding environment has an eminent role for promoting the interdisciplinary conversation between psychology and theology. Especially, his concept of the holding environment helps us to examine the mutual interrelatedness between the psychological dimension of ‘the mother-child matrix’ and the religious dimension of ‘the God-human matrix.’ The common task of both pastoral counseling and Christian spirituality of worship is to realize the importance of the mutually-related space of ‘God, person, and community,’ and to restore “the ability to play.”
