국문 초록

본 논문은 볼프강 후버의 공적 교회 개념의 배경과 특징을 분석하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 국가와 사회에 대한 교회의 통합적 책임 이론의 전개를 위해 공공성 개념을 주제화한 후버는 국가와 사회가 공적 영역에 속한다는 사실과 이를 위한 교회 역할의 중요성을 논구했다. 그에 따르면 사회 속에 실존하는 교회는 정치적, 사회적 문제들에 관심을 기울여야 하고, 기독교적 정체성을 유지한 채 공적 대화에 참여하여 공적 영역의 발전에 기여해야 한다. 또한, 교회는 공적 영역에서의 교육 활동과 사회봉사 활동에 집중하여 선교의 열매를 맺어야 한다. 이러한 구상을 통해 후버는 선교 활동과 사회 참여를 동시에 추구하는 교회의 이론을 제시했다. 그의 교회론은 독일 교회뿐 아니라 두 과제의 통합적 추구가 필요한 한국 교회에 길잡이 역할을 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper has as its purpose the analysis of the background and character of Wolfgang Huber’s concept of the public church. Huber accepted and thematized the social philosophical idea ‘public’ for the development of the Church’s integrated responsibility theory of state and society. Huber explained that state and society belong to the public domain and discussed the importance of the role of the church. According to him, the Church which exists in a society must be concerned for political, social issues and participate in public dialogue for public development while maintaining its Christian identity. The Church also has to focus on religious education and Diakonia to bear fruit from its Mission. With this, Huber suggested a theory of the church that emphasizes dialectical mission work and social participation. His ecclesiology can give a helpful perspective not only on the German church but also on the Korean church that needs to develop an integrative approach in the pursuit of its tasks.
