국문 초록

이스라엘 공동체가 여호와 하나님의 백성으로 새롭게 태어난 결정적인 사건인 출애굽 사건을 이해하려면 여호와가 애굽에 내린 열 가지 재앙들에 대한 연구가 선행되어야 한다. 재앙을 한 가지도 내리지 않아도 여호와는 이스라엘 백성들을 애굽에서 나가게(출애굽) 할 수 있었지만, 열 가지나 되는 재앙을 내려서 출애굽하게 한 것을 보면 재앙에 관한 내용은 그 자체로서도 중요한 신학적 주제들을 포함하고 있다고 하겠다. 본 논문은 이 재앙들 가운데 다섯째 재앙에 대한 분석적 연구로서, 애굽 사람들이 소유한 가축들에게 심한 전염병이 생기는 재앙이 기록된 본문을 다루고 있다. 재앙은 가축들을 죽게 하지만, 실제적으로 이 재앙의 피해를 보는 사람들은 애굽 사람들이었고, "들에 있는" 가축들을 죽임으로써 다섯째 재앙은 애굽 땅을 황폐하게 하는 것을 목적으로 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 바로에게 실제로 여호와의 말씀을 전하고 바로가 이스라엘을 보내주기를 거절하는 장면들에 대한 본문이 생략된 것에 주목하여, 재앙을 내리는 것은 여호와 하나님이며 성서기자는 이것을 강조하려는 것이었다는 사실도 밝힐 수 있었다. 7절에 사용된 "보내다"라는 동사의 이중적인 측면은 결국 이스라엘이 애굽 땅에서 나가야 한다는 사실을 다섯째 재앙이 암시하고 있음을 보여주었다. 따라서 재앙의 본문이 강조하고 있는 개념성이 "땅"이라는 것을 알 수 있으며, 이는 출애굽기 전체에서 나타나는 "땅"의 개념성(Conceptuality)의 기초를 공유하고 있다는 것을 입증해 준다.

영문 초록

The Exodus event has been one of the most crucial events in the history of Israel because the Israel community was born through that event under the leadership of Moses. In order to understand this overarching event of Exodus, the study on the ten plagues brought upon Egypt by YHWH has to be done. Actually, YHWH did not need to hit Egypt with those ten plagues to make Israel come out of Egypt because YHWH is always able to do that kind of thing without any plague what so ever. However, the fact that we have the texts of those ten plagues in Exodus indicates that there is very important meaning and theological themes embedded in them. In this study I have focused my research on the fifth plague where a deadly pestilence killed all of the Egyptian livestock in the field. The expression "in the field" denotes that the doomed livestock should be limited to the land of Egypt. I noticed the similar case in the fourth plague narrative(8:24) where the land was ruined because of the flies. The concept of the land is clearly emphasized in this fifth plague narrative as in the cases of the previous plague narratives. The ultimate target of each plague is no other than the land of Egypt. The land should be desolated and ruined, so Israel could get out of that land and go to the promised land. Also the plague warning that is supposed to be told to the king of Egypt is delivered to Moses by YHWH. But the actual deliverance of that warning to the king of Egypt is not written in the text. Including the previous four plague, the text of the fifth plague becomes silent on this matter. This means that the narrator wants to make sure the fifth plague is nothing but the work of YHWH. The fact that the plague fell upon Egypt justifies that the king of Egypt heard the warning and rejected to the idea of letting Israel go out of Egypt. This study shows that the land is the conceptuality in this plague narrative and that getting out of the land of Egypt is the only way to fulfill the promis
