학생 요구에 부합하는 대학 교양 교과목 개발 방향 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 교양 교과목에 대한 대학생들의 의견을 수렴함으로써 교양 교과목 개발 시 고려할 수 있는 시사점을 도출하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 경기도 소재 D 대학교의 전교생을 대상으로 설문을 진행하였으며, 설문 결과를 토대로 교양 교과목 개발을 위한 시사점을 제안하였다. 설문은 교양교육 현황, 신규 교과목에 대한 의견을 묻는 7개의 문항으로 구성하였으며, 웹 설문 방식으로 진행된 설문에 총 1,302명의 학생이 참여하였다. 설문 결과는 교양교육의 목표 달성에 대한 중요도-충족도 분석(Importance-Performance Analysis)을 하였으며, 신규로 개발할 교양 교과목의 내용/운영 방식/특성에 대한 의견은 빈도분석과 내용 분석(Content analysis)을 하였다. IPA 분석 결과, 학생들이 중요하다고 생각하지만, 충족도는 낮아서 집중적인 투자가 이루어져야 하는 영역은 ① 비판적 사고능력 및 합리적 의사소통능력, ② 융합적 사고 및 창의적 문제해결 능력, 그리고 ③ 인간과 세계에 대한 바람직한 가치관 정립과 같은 목표였다. 학생들은 향후 개발되는 교과목이 더욱 전문적이고 흥미로운 주제를 다루길 희망하고 있었으며, 학생의 역할이 더욱 능동적이고 수업 중 상호작용이 적극적으로 이루어지길 원하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 수업에서 다루어지는 내용이 더욱 광범위하게 다루어졌으면 하는 요구를 반영하고 있었으며, 수업 방식에서도 더욱 다양하고 매체 활용 범위도 넓어졌으면 하는 의견을 제시하였다. 본 연구에서 제시하는 학생들의 요구를 바탕으로 한 교양 교과목 개발에 대한 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학 교양 교과목의 내용 영역에서는 지식을 전달하는 목적의 교과목보다는 실질적 문제해결이나 분석적이고 창의적인 사고력이 있어야 하는 내용을 포함할 필요성이 있다. 둘째, 수업방법에서는 기존의 강의식 방법에서 벗어나 현실 세계에 적용해 볼 수 있는 맥락을 제공하고 실천적 경험을 제공할 수 있어야 한다. 셋째, 수업 운영의 측면에서는 교육 수요자인 학생들의 특징을 반영하여 다양한 매체를 활용하고 흥미를 유발할 수 있는 요소를 포함해야 한다. 본 연구에서 제시된 시사점을 바탕으로 교양 교과목이 학생 수요에 더욱 부응하는 방향으로 개선될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to derive implications for the development of Liberal Arts curriculum by collecting the opinions of university students regarding Liberal Arts curriculum. For this purpose, the questionnaire was conducted for all students of D University in Gyeonggi - do, and suggestions for the development of Liberal Arts curriculum were based on the questionnaire results. The questionnaire consisted of 7 questions asking about the status of Liberal Arts education and opinions about new subjects, and a total of 1,302 students participated in the questionnaire conducted by the web survey method. The results of the questionnaire were based on the Importance-Performance Analysis. The opinions on the contents/operation methods/characteristics of the newly developed Liberal Arts curriculum were analyzed via Frequency Analysis and Content Analysis. The results of the IPA analysis show that the students should be focused on and intensively invested in the following areas: ① critical thinking and rational communication, ② convergent thinking and creative problem-solving, and ③ the goal of establishing desirable values. Results showed that students hoped that future courses would deal with “more professional” and “interesting” topics, and that the role of the student would be more active in the classroom. In addition, it reflected the demands that the contents covered in the lessons should be more broadly handled, and suggested that the methods of teaching should be broader and more diverse. The implications for the development of Liberal Arts curriculum based on the needs of students presented in this study are as follows. First, there is a need to include contents that require practical problem solving or analytical and creative thinking rather than the traditional knowledge transfer of subject matter of in the content area of College Liberal Arts curriculum. Second, the teaching method should be able to provide a context that can be applied to the real world and provide a practical experience by moving away from the existing lecture method. Third, in terms of classroom operation, it should include elements that can utilize various media forms and attract student interest, reflecting characteristics of students who are education demanders. Based on the implications of this study, the Liberal Arts curriculum can be improved to better meet student demand.
