선인들의 유람록에 나타난 자연환경·문화유산 보전의식 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구는 정성적 연구 방법을 활용하여 조선시대 관광현상의 일단을 밝히는 작업으로 시도되었다. 선인들의 유람록 총 26편을 대상으로 자연환경 보전의식 및 문화유산 보전의식이 어떻게 드러나고 있는지를 고찰하였다. 먼저 선인들의 유람록에 나타난 제명행위 비판의식의 유형을 살폈다. 첫째, 제명을 비판하되 제명으로 인한 환경훼손의 문제를 인지하지 못하고, 그 비판의 동기를 자연환경 보전의식과 결부시키지 않은 경우이다. 이러한 제명비판의식은 현대의 생태 관광의 관점에서 우러나온 것이 아닌 선비가 자신의 이름을 후세에 어떻게 남겨야 하는가에 대한 철학과 관념의 소산에서 비롯된 것이라 할 수 있다. 둘째, 제명으로 인한 환경훼손의 문제점을 정확히 파악하여 제명행위 비판에 자연환경 보전의식을 드러내고 있는 경우이다. 이 같은 사례가 후인들에게 계승·발전되지 못한 점이 아쉽지만, 오늘날 지속가능한 관광의 자생적 이론을 도출할 수 있는 근거로 이러한 제명비판의식을 검토할 수 있다. 셋째, 제명을 비판하면서도 실제로는 제명을 하는 등 제명관과 제명행위에 일관성이 없는 경우이다. 이어 유람현지에서 문화유산 보전의식을 표출한 사대부들이 자연환경 보전의식도 함께 지니고 있는지를 고찰하였다. 분석 결과, 유람현지에서 사찰, 서원, 정자 등 유적의 훼손을 아쉬워하고 그 복원을 바라는 문화유산 보전의식을 지닌 유람자가 자연환경 보전의식도 동시에 보유하고 있는 경우는 드물었다. 곧 대다수의 유람자들은 그들이 지닌 문화유산 보전의 식을 자연환경 보전의식과 동반하지 않고, 현대의 지속가능한 관광의 개념으로 함께 이어가지 못했다.

영문 초록

This study was attempted to clarify some of the tourism phenomena in the Joseon Dynasty using qualitative research methods. The purpose of this paper was to examine the consciousness of conservation of natural environment and consciousness of conservation of cultural heritage in the trip accounts of mount by gentry. The types of critical consciousness of recording one’s name to vacationland are as follows. First, the criticism of recording one’s name to vacationland is not related to the consciousness of conservation of the natural environment. This is not from the viewpoint of ecotourism, but from the philosophical reasoning of how a person should leave his name to posterity. Second, the criticism of recording one’s name to vacationland reflects the consciousness of conservation of natural environment. This can be used as a basis for the self-sustaining theory of sustainable tourism today. Third, while criticizing the recording one’s name to vacationland, the actual act is contrary to the fact that words and actions do not coincide. It was also examined whether the gentry who showed the consciousness of conservation of cultural heritage at the vacationland had the consciousness of conservation of natural environment. As a result of the analysis, it was rare for the gentry who have a sense of the consciousness of conservation of cultural heritage to regret the damage of relics such as temples, Seowon(lecture hall), and pavilion in vacationland and to restore them to have a consciousness of conservation of natural environment at the same time. And they did not pass their consciousness of conservation of cultural heritage as a concept of modern sustainable tourism.
