‘억척어멈’에서 부각된 30년 전쟁의 성격과 여성 이미지

국문 초록

20세기에 들어오면서 여성의 사회적 활동의 문호가 열리기 시작했고 여성들에게도 사회에서 인정하는 직업이 주어졌으며, 직업과 관련한 그녀들의 능력이 중요시되었다. 이와 더불어 여성의 활동 공간이 가정에 한정되었던 것이 가정 밖으로 확장됨에 따라, 직업적 능력 및 성취와 여성의 본성인 여성성(Weiblichkeit)과의 갈등 관계가 대두되었다. 베르톨트 브레히트(Bertot Brecht 1898-1956)는 『억척어멈과 그녀의 자식들(Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder)』에서 이 문제를 다루고 있다. 20세기와 더불어 사회는 산업사회로 변화하고, 특히 전후(戰後)에는 여성의 사회활동도 보다 활발해진다. 여성이 사회라는 남성적 공간에 발을 내딛음으로써 이전에 예견치 못했던 문제들이 발생한다. 억척어멈과 그녀의 자식들』의 주인공 억척어멈은 17세기를 살아가는 여성이지만 자유롭고 완전히 독립적인 인간으로서, 생존하기에는 극한적으로 어려운 상황인 전시(戰時)에 전쟁을 이용하는 사업을 하며 살아간다. 이는 어느 시대, 어느 장소를 막론하고 사회생활을 하는 여성에게는, 여성이기 때문에 겪어야하는 특별한 어려움이 있다는 것을 의미한다. 본 논문에서는 역사와 문학작품을 별개로 해석하는 시각에서 벗어나, 작품이 탄생한 시대배경과, 작품 속 시대 배경에 대한 역사적 해석에 주목하고자 한다. 이러한 접근 방법은 ‘여성’에 대한 해석에 더 다양한 프리즘을 제공할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

With entering the 20th century, the door in a woman s social activity began to be opened. Even women were given a job of being recognized in society. Those women s ability related to job was emphasized. On top of this, what a woman s space of activity was limited to home was extended to the outside of home. Thus, a conflictual relationship emerged between vocational ability & achievement and femininity(Weiblichkeit), which is a woman s true character. Bertot Brecht(1898-1956) is addressing this issue in 『Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder』. Along with the 20th century, society changes into industrial society. Especially, even a woman s social activity comes to be more active after the war. Women who had only home as the space of activity before come to society outside home. Simultaneously with this, women meet with a new conflict of being created in two living spaces dubbed home and society. As a woman steps foot on the masculine space called society, the previously unexpected problems take place. Considering what the sphere of social life is the traditionally masculine space, it will be all right even if seeing that these matters result from a collision between masculinity and femininity. These issues are difficulties that are not shown in men. Brecht expressed these several problems that women suffer through heroins in his work. The heroin Mother Courage in 『Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder』is a woman who proceeds with living in the 17th century, but makes a living with doing business of using the war in time of war, which is extremely a difficult situation enough to survive as a freely & completely independent human. This implies that a woman of making social life has a special difficulty of needing to experience for a reason of being a woman, regardless of any period and any place. This study aims to pay attention to historical interpretation on the time background with the birth of a work and on the time background in a work, with escaping from a view of separately analyzing history and a literary work. This approach is expected to likely offer more various prisms to the interpretation of woman,
