국문 초록

탈냉전시대들어과학적일반화를통한예측보다역사적성찰을중시하는 흐름이 형성되었으며 이러한 분위기를 배경으로 한국에서도 외교사 연구가 활성화되었다. 금세기 이후 한국 외교사 연구는 몇 가지 특징을 보여주는데 외교사와국제정치학간의학제적연구의모색, 식민지와냉전시대로연구시기의확대, 개념사등새로운연구방법론의적용, 외교사연구에기반한이론화 시도 등이 그것이다. 향후 한국 외교사 연구가 국제정치학 일반의 발전을 견인하기위해서는보다긴장감있는연구가필요하다. 첫째, 한국외교사연구에 토대를 둔 동아시아 국제정치의 이론화가 본격화되어야 할 것이다. 둘째, 근현대시대에서벗어나연구범위를전근대, 고대까지확장할필요가있다. 셋째, 한국 외교사와 국제정치학의 학제적 연구뿐만 아니라 한국 외교사와 북한학간의학제적연구도시도해볼만하다. 넷째, 오늘날한국외교의과제를고려하여한중관계사에대한집중적투자와연구가필요하다. 이러한작 업들이순조롭게진행된다면그종착역은한국적국제정치학의정립, 국제정치학에서한국학파의형성이될것이다.

영문 초록

The rise of diplomatic history study in Korea reflects the post-cold war academic trend that values historic introspection than prediction based on scientific generalization. Korean diplomatic history after this century shows several features such as inter-disciplinary approach between diplomatic history and international relations, extension of research period to colonial and cold war era, application of concept history to diplomatic history, theorizing diplomatic history. Korean diplomatic history needs more efforts to lead the development of international relations in Korea. First, more active theorizing East Asian international relations based on Korean diplomatic research. Second, research period has to be enlarged beyond modern times, even to ancient ages. Third, promoting inter-disciplinary approach between diplomatic history and North Korean studies, let alone diplomatic history and international relations. Last, more intensive study on Sino-Korean relations to meet contemporary Korean foreign policy needs. These efforts might result in the formation of Korean school in international relations study.
